Title: Unveiled
Author: Lauren Grimley
Series: Alex Crocker #2
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: April 27th 2012

With strength comes vulnerabilities. With love comes loss. With power comes pain. The world Alex now belongs to hinges on such balance. Her every step seems to be lurching her precariously closer to one wrong side or another.

Alex had known her life as a Seer wouldn’t be easy. She knew her gift would be difficult to control and constantly sensing others’ emotions would be overwhelming. She even knew she’d be hunted for the power it would provide whichever coven of vampires controlled her. What she didn’t foresee were the difficulties she’d have with the parts of her life she ought to be able to control: her decisions, her actions, and her relationships.

It isn’t until she’s botched every facet of her new life that the opportunity arises to make things right. Rocky’s lover has been abducted, and Alex’s gift is the best shot at bringing her home alive. But even that will require tipping the scales in a direction no one but Alex can understand.

This sequel to Unforeseen is a darker tale of the battles Alex continues to fight against her enemies, her gift, and even herself. This time victory might cost her sanity, her lover, or her life.

Unveiled continues on not long after Unforeseen with Alex still adapting to her new life in the Vampire Coven. She isn't her normal self as she went through so much in the end of Unforeseen, and had to deal with loss all over again. She made some tough decisions that affected her emotionally and she is finding it hard to deal with all her powers now that she has matured. Even though she strived for equality and a place as a warrior, she is finding it hard to adapt to it all, her powers, essence and independence.

Alex took a while to find her path in this book. She is still a passionate person, and wants to help others, but she is very independent as she has lived that way most of her life. When she has a plan to make herself useful, she is denied as the Ragen, Darian, wants to keep his coven together, and cannot protect her if she isn’t close. Alex does, however, learn more about her powers and how to harness it, once she allows people to help her. She still speaks her mind and quite often forgets that she is around Vampires and more often than not finds herself in hot water!

Markus is very much in love with her and we find out more about his and Darian’s history. Rocky is still important to Alex and she works very closely with him to fulfil their mission. They are all a great team, but have issues with their tempers, so that brings them under the spotlight more often. Alex learns the hard way what her bad behaviour can bring on.

I enjoyed seeing these characters again, and the way Lauren tells the story is captivating. There is plenty of action and a little mystery as well. All the characters have unusual chemistry but they gel well together to make a force able team. The other Vampires are still strong, but quiet since their latest run in. There isn't much of a focus on the prophecy in this book but by the end I could see that it is building and I'm keen to see where things will head from there.

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
