Book Description

With the threat of a werehyena takeover dealt with, Kess, Finn, and Rafe can finally enjoy the tentative peace Miami has to offer. As Kess moves forward with her decision to open up the territory to peaceful weres, she knows that the Keepers of Divine Order—a group of werejackal assassins—are watching her every move. If her plan fails, she knows they won’t hesitate to eliminate her and her friends.

When several werehyenas suddenly disappear and Mebis, the Keeper assigned to Miami, goes unexpectedly missing, Kess fears the worst. But even she’s unprepared for this latest threat: a hunter hiding in plain sight whose only goal is killing werecreatures. Can Kess and her friends survive this most dangerous game?

Character Bio

Finn McNeil

His full name is Finnegan. His parents named him after Finnegan’s Wake--his mother’s favorite story by James Joyce. She was an English teacher at the local high school.

Finn is a werewolf, born into a family of werewolves. His father, Griff, is the pack Beta and his uncle Alaric is the pack Alpha. Finn has one older brother, Burke, who is also a werewolf.

Even as a child, Finn was always a joker. Burke was the serious brother so Finn took up the role of family and class clown. If there was a prank, he was usually behind it; if there was a ruckus at school, he was usually the instigator. He wasn’t a troublemaker, he just wasn’t serious. About anything. He had a lightheartedness about him that kept him out of most of the trouble he caused and people loved to be around him.

He was very close to his mother, but she died of cancer when he was a junior in high school. His spark dimmed for a while and his usual sunny disposition turned dark. But after a few months, he recovered his good humor.

Unfortunately for the female population of the high school he attended, he set his sights on breaking as many hearts as possible. It wasn’t a life goal or anything like that--he just enjoyed dating around but was not interested in anything permanent. His belief was that marriage was what you did when you were done having fun and he fully intended never to BE done.

His trend of loving and leaving ‘em continued on through his first year of college, racking up freshmen conquests the way others rack up a body count on Halo. He had a girl stalk him, one pour a pitcher of iced tea over his head, and one create a warning video to all incoming freshmen about him. Still, Finn never took any of it seriously.

That is, until a pregnancy scare gets Finn all up in arms about the way he’s perceived, both in the family and outside it. He doesn’t necessarily want to be the punchline of his family’s jokes and, while he doesn’t want to be exactly like Burke and his cousin, Cormac, he would like to be taken seriously. A trip to Miami to help Kess out is exactly what he needs to show that he can be counted on in the clutch.

And that’s where poor deluded Finn meets the girl of his dreams. He wasn’t looking for a regular girlfriend, let alone one who was a werejackal assassin in her spare time, and never thought that a woman who could put him in traction with a flex of her little finger would be the kind of girl he’d even want to look at, let alone be with for any extended period of time. But Laila isn’t like other women and he’s fascinated by her no nonsense view of the world. She won’t play his games and that’s something he never expected to like.

And he’s discovered that being in love is a whole lot of fun, especially when the object of one’s affection come equipped with her own set of edged weapons.

Finn would like you to know he’s a Taurus and that he likes long walks on the beach, the full moon, and jellybeans. He thinks the Dewey Decimal system is the greatest thing ever and volunteers his time working with orphaned puppies and kittens. He’s also completely full of crap.

Author Bio

Jeanette BattistaJeanette Battista graduated with an English degree with a concentration in medieval literature which explains her possibly unhealthy fixation on edged weapons and cathedral architecture. She spent a summer in England and Scotland studying the historical King Arthur, which did nothing to curb her obsession. To satisfy her adrenaline cravings—since sword fighting is not widely accepted in these modern times—she rode a motorcycle at ridiculously high speeds, got some tattoos, and took kickboxing and boxing classes. She gave up the bike when her daughter came along, although she still gets pummeled at the gym on a regular basis.

When she’s not writing or working, Jeanette spends time with family, hikes, reads, makes decadent brownies, buys killer boots, and plays Pocket Frogs. She wishes there were more hours in the day so she could actually do more of these things. She lives with her daughter and their two psychotic kittens in North Carolina.

Book Blurb:

Choosing is a bad idea, because Desi always makes the wrong choice, and sometimes there are no do-overs. Certainly not this time, when all has been lost and Desi can’t even save herself, let alone her friends. For Desi, the hardest thing is letting someone help her, to accept their sacrifice on her\behalf. But that’s exactly what she’ll have to do in order to save the worlds from Helena’s destruction.

The goddess of Helheimer, long imprisoned by Desi’s father, Loki, is free at last, and she’s bent on reclaiming what once was hers. The nine worlds will be drawn into war, over Hell, over Earth, with innocent humans as meaningless collateral.

While Michael and the Gardians of Asgard, along with the golden-armored Valkyrie, lead the battle for freedom, it’s Desi who holds the destiny of all the worlds in her hands.

Can she set aside her doubts, once and for all, and claim the gifts that are hers to bear? Can she accept the sacrifice that is made for her and Become all that she was created to be?

Her final choice will define not only her future, but the fate of humankind, forever more.

Character Bio

HEIMDALL

AKA: God of the Bifrost
Ageless.
Stature: He is a giant of a man—7’ tall and as wide as two men.
Favorite clothes: His wardrobe is virtually unchanging—he is dressed in the white and gold silks and fine cloth of the Persian Empire.
Favorite weapon: He has not drawn a weapon in eons, but should he be forced to raise his arm, he would use a scimitar.
Favorite drink: Ambrosia.
Favorite food: Fruit of all kinds.
Favorite treat: There is none he has found to tempt him.

Among the oldest of the gods, and one of the few Vanir gods remaining, Heimdall is a serious sort of fellow. He mostly keeps to himself, busying himself by overseeing the paths to all the worlds and ensuring they are not misused. He has had few friends in his extremely long lifetime, one of the best of whom has been Michael.

Though generally untrusting, with emotions that are as hard to move as a planet is forced out of orbit, when Heimdall does give his love and friendship, it is immovable and eternal. Heimdall is fierce in protection of what he deems to be right and he is guided by his own personal moral compass that is oftentimes more strict than that of others.

ODIN

AKA: Lord of Asgard, Guardian of Midgard
Ageless.
Favorite clothes: He wears the warrior garb of a Gardian beneath a long midnight-blue robe with embedded gems that glimmer like stars.
Favorite weapon: He prefers a sword and practices regularly.
Favorite drink: Ambrosia.
Favorite food: The silver apples of the Alfahr.
Favorite treat: He can’t get enough of those apples.

God of Æsa, Odin was at one time ruler of all. But when his people came bowing and scraping to the Vanir gods he resolved himself to be content with whatever they might, in their generosity, grant him. He doesn’t begrudge his new charge, the small Asgard world, nor does he blame his former subjects who now rule equally over their own planets. He does, however, regret the order that once brought him peace.

Now, with so many gods vying to be Lord of All, there is little that eases his mind. Instead, he must be ever vigilant, ever aware of what is going on on other worlds so he will be ready to stand in defense of all that he loves.

Review/Character Interview – Veer by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Welcome to my stop on the Veer book tour which has been brought to you by SupaGurl Tours. Here you can read my review, the character interview and learn a little more about the author Alyssa Rose Ivy. Don't forget to visit the other blogs on this tour for more information about this book and the author.

Title: Veer
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Series: Clayton Falls #2
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Published: November 29th 2012

Book Description

Only when you let go can you learn to live.

Between the death of her mother and pushing through law school without her best friend, it's been a tough year for Becca. Needing a break from Boston, she moves to a tiny coastal North Carolina town for a relaxing summer. After bumping heads repeatedly with a local cop, she realizes her summer will be anything but quiet.

Three years after a career ending injury ruins his chance to play Major League Baseball, Gavin has a distrust of northerners and lately girls in general. He wants nothing to do with a girl who is only in town for the summer.

When the two give in to their impossible attraction, they realize that they may just have found the key to freeing themselves from the ghosts of their pasts.

My Review

Veer is the second book in the Clayton Falls Series and it is the only book that I have read in the series, which I found easy to read as a standalone. It was an emotional contemporary romance where both characters need to deal with their insecurities so that they can move on and improve their lives.

Becca’s car broke down on the side of the road as she is heading to Clayton Falls to spend time with her friend Molly and to start a summer job at a law firm until college begins again. Gavin stops to offer his assistance and tries to talk Becca into accepting a lift to her friend’s house. Becca is a bit reluctant at first, but decides to take the chance and accept his help. While they are travelling to Molly’s, the sparks begin to fly, but not in a good way. They end up having an argument over the smallest thing! It is amusing to watch them bicker and I was laughing out loud about their fight! They seem to have that love/hate relationship happening as there are other times that they argue as well, much to the dismay of their friends.  It was great to see that this romance was not love at first sight and that they had a few things to work out before they could even think about having a relationship.

I didn't really like Gavin in the beginning as he was a real jerk! He was picking fights with Becca for no good reason and did something terrible to her too. The one thing I wished that did happen was Jake's fist landing on his face! He needed the sense knocked out of him, but it didn't connect. He improved after this and became the perfect gentleman and did lots of things that made me go awww..... He stepped up and pushed away his fears to become the person he should be.

Becca has had a lot to deal with in the past few months and luck is not on her side. She has a beautiful soul and a big heart. She accepted the job in Clayton Falls so she could get away from her life in Boston for a while, but she finds it a little overwhelming in Clayton Falls as everyone is overly friendly toward her. She doesn't understand the people in this small town, but is able to push her feelings aside to do the best she can.

Overall I really did enjoy the story it was a bit of a rocky journey but it was nice in the end. Alyssa did a beautiful job at telling both Becca and Gavin's story and I'm glad things ended the way they did. I will have to go back and read the first book in the series which is Molly’s book because I think Gavin is in that one too. It would be interesting to see what he was like with her.

Character Interview with Becca Harris from Veer

Q: What did you think of Gavin when you first met him?

What didn’t I think? At first I was scared (my car had broken down on the side of the road). Then I was attracted. Finally, I was annoyed. I couldn’t believe such a good looking guy could have such a lousy personality.

Q: Was Gavin how your friend Molly described him?

Yes, and no. He was definitely as tall and hot, but he certainly wasn’t the sweet guy she described. Or at least he wasn’t to me at first.

Q: What did you think of Clayton Falls when you first arrived?

I thought it was cute, but also really small. It was nice, but definitely not what I was used to it. It was a hard transition coming from spending my whole life in Boston.

Q: What’s the best part of Clayton Falls?

The people. I met so many terrific people there. Obviously I met Gavin, but there’s also Jake, Ben, Kelly, Tom, and Gail (oh and of course Molly lives there now). I also love the beach. It’s a great combination.

Blurb:

By the summer, Tatiana “Nicky” Roman must learn to trust Xander Day if she’s ever going to discover the origin of her violent hallucinations. But centuries of being repeatedly murdered by him on July 17th are a little hard to forgive.

Over four hundred years ago, Xander thought the holy man’s prophetic words were as crazy as his eyes—that Alexander and Tatiana were destined to be together forever. But Xander misunderstood the mystic. He knows now forever meant forever taking the other’s life. If they never break the bloody curse holding them prisoners of fate, there will be only one outcome: death.

Character Bio - Xander

Name:  Alexander Douglas Day
Age: 18 - finally
Hair/Eyes:  Wavy, golden blonde/hazel
Height: 6' 1"
Likes:  Greasy food, soccer, poetry, tormenting Nicky
Vices: smokes (old habit,) hot temper, ignores rules, fights

History:  Originally born the son of an English dairy farmer under the rule of Henry VIII, Xander had once been a carefree young man, fighting with his friends and flirting with the farmers' daughters.  Despite his good intentions, Alexander has always found himself on the other side of the law.  Though he tries to be good, his passion and pride often turn to hate and would place him in the middle of rebellions and movements that aim to change the status quo--sometimes those movements have bettered the world, some proved to be misguided.  After having the misfortune of falling in love with a beautiful, spoiled princess with porcelain skin and a steely gaze, Alexander consults a mystic he encounters along the road.  That was his first encounter with destiny and the grip it can have over someone's life.  He misunderstood the mystic's prophecy that he and Tatiana would be together forever and like a lovesick puppy, naively believed a pauper could marry a princess.  Compulsive and temperamental, Alexander always acts first and thinks after.  These compulsive acts, and the ugliest traits of both Alexander and Tatiana, would lead them both to lifetimes of pain and misery.

Without knowing what lied ahead, Xander would go on to die on a guillotine's platform, sink beneath the cold waters of a New World, and suffer as a city burns around him, each time meeting his end with Nicky at his side.

Xander has held many occupations and picked up many traits over the last few centuries.  The most useful being the skill of pick pocketing he learned from a homeless French girl while traveling with his gypsy family through the small villages of pre-World War II Austria.  Together they would help steal food for their camp and help refugees escape the Nazi grip on Europe.  Until he died and she lived on.

But fate always lead him to Nicky, the girl he loved beyond time and hate.

Character Breakdown:  Xander is most known for his passion--passion for his family, his friends, and for Nicky.  Sometimes his passion burned so bright it would get him into trouble, making him ignore how it might affect others, who he might hurt.  Along with passion, Xander has always been proud, always living the life of someone who has been given little in life with much to overcome.  He is hard-headed and jealous, especially where Nicky is concerned.  But that has kept him going, enduring death again and again, because despite the pain and blood, he will never give up on her.

Species:  Vampire
Speaks:  English, French
Age:  227 years old
Height: 6’ 4”
Hair Color:  Jet Black
Eyes:  Midnight Green

A quick quote from Luca:

“No, no, no, darlin’. Not tonight. You don’t get to decide when or how the pleasure happens. You wanted to play, so play we shall.”

Q&A with Lucas…….

For those readers who may not know you, please tell them a few tidbits about you, Luca?

First let me say that I am honored to be interviewed by your site.  As most of my acquaintances and friends know, I generally don’t interact with humans, except to feed and have relations, if you understand my meaning.  In truth, I prefer supernaturals, since they are not as weak and vulnerable as mortals tend to be….very breakable, indeed.

I collect antiquities, to the point that Samantha joked that my home looked like a museum.  Long ago, when I was turned vampire, Kade suggested a take up a hobby.  And antiques are plentiful in New Orleans.

When did you become a vampire?

Ah, it is a long story as I was turned during the War of 1812 by my maker, Kade Issacson.  I’ve worked for him ever since protecting him and his assets.

What is your favorite memory?

My most treasured memories involve my most intimate moments with my love, Samantha.  Let’s just say that I enjoyed our first walk on the kinky side; she’s quite responsive.  The details of our encounter are much too steamy for this interview, I’m afraid.  You’ll have to read the book if you want to know everything.

Are you planning any special dates for Samantha?

I haven’t had the opportunity to take Samantha on a proper date given the unfortunate battles we’ve been forced to fight over the past month.  I will tell you as long as you promise not to tell her.

You see, I learned that my girl has a proclivity for skinny dipping in mountain lakes.  So I plan to take her to Jamaica to a private au natural beach where we shall go on holiday at our beach villa, complete with a large king size bed overlooking azure waters.  I cannot wait to see the look on her face when we arrive.  Of course, I will take her there on the private jet, and blindfold her on the ride from the airport so that it is a complete surprise.  But shhh….it’s a secret.

What are your favorite weapons?

I’m an expert in hand-to-hand combat, and of course, as vampire, my fangs will rip the throat out of my best opponent.  But I have been known to carry a stake with me as well.

What/who would you never want to come across again?

It is difficult to say in that evil lies in all species, be it human, vampire, witch or other supernaturals.  We must remain diligently on guard given that Kade has great power and there are those who would like to see both of us dead.  Being a security expert, I defy anyone to try it.

How do you see your future?

As vampire, my future is filled with promise.  As a lover, my nights are filled with the erotic embrace of my woman.

What do you prefer Luca?

Contemporary Furniture or Antiques – Antiques
Beach or Mountains – Mountains
Fairies or Witches – Witches
Day or Night - Night
Gun or Knife – Fangs J
Upper body or Lower body – Upper Body, I want to see her eyes
Blonde or Brunette - Redheads
City or Country– City…New Orleans
Love or Sex - Both
Lips or Neck – Neck
Movies or Books – Books
Chocolate or Ice Cream - Chocolate

Do you have to tell anything else noteworthy?

As irritable as I was with Sydney, Kade’s lovely detective and now fiancée, I must admit that certain humans are growing on me.   Samantha….well, she is quite delectable…a right saucy witch, indeed.  You must read our story to understand the full extent of our relationship…it is quite an erotic tale.

Thanks so much for having me.  It was lovely of you to invite me to Nomi’s Paranormal Palace! J
