Feature & Follow #3

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community. If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

Here’s this week’s question:
Best Cover? What is the best cover of a book that you've read and didn't like?

This one was a little difficult for me, there haven’t been many books that I haven’t liked. The ones that I didn’t like had awful covers anyway, so it was my own fault!!

However, I decided to pick Reckoning by Lili St. Crow. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the whole series but I hated the way it ended, that’s the only fault with this book.

What do you think?

What's your FF?

Magic Gone Wild by Judi Fennell

He slid his arms around her shoulders; he couldn’t not hold her.

Her chin dipped slightly, and her lips parted. He could not slip his tongue inside.

And then she moaned softly, and he couldn’t not deepen the kiss. Couldn’t not slide one hand down her back, tracing all the curves. Couldn’t not twine his fingers in her hair and tug her head back just a little more, open her mouth a little wider, taste her a little deeper. Her fingertips brushed his rib cage, and Zane couldn’t not crush her to him.

And then all bets were off. The kiss turned hot and sexy and steamy as all hell.

My Teaser

Logan smiled inwardly. His sudden excitement surprised him, and yet it was sincere. A date next week with Hailey-that’d be all right. But this was silly. It was hardly a date. It was hardly anything at all. How would Erin feel?
Fine, Logan. Erin would feel fine. Don’t kid yourself. Erin wouldn’t bat an eye. After last night, she doesn’t even like you as a friend right now.

Kindle Edition Loc 1334

It all comes down to girl issues doesn’t it??

Six Weeks to Yehidah by Melissa Studdard – Tour/Review

Welcome to my stop on the Six Weeks to Yehidah book tour which has been brought to you by Sage's Blog Tours. Here you can read a summary of the book, read my review and learn a little more about the author Melissa Studdard in her bio. Don't forget to visit the other blogs on this tour for more information about this book and the author.

Author: Melissa Studdard
Title: Six Weeks to Yehidah
Publisher: All Things That Matter Press
Published: August 3rd 2011
Format: eBook supplied for review

Summary from Goodreads

"The thing you would notice most was the rain, how the rain fell and fell and never seemed to stop. The sky was constantly swollen with it, then birthing it, swollen, then birthing again, and the hills, like greedy babies, suckled up all that rain. They shone and glistened green as the backs of frogs on bright green lily pads.

Annalise was ten then, old enough that she’d begun thinking about grown up things, like picking her own clothes out for school, yet young enough, still, to indulge in fanciful imaginings of enchanted trees and talking hills. Her best friends were the clouds that canopied her village and the verdant hills that hosted her most precious and outrageous dreams."

As spunky young Annalise travels from one adventure to another, she learns ancient wisdom traditions and gains deeper and deeper insight into herself and her world. Eventually she must make the most important decision she's ever faced -- whether or not to return to the self she has always known.

 My Review

Six Weeks to Yehidah is a fun fantasy story. It is like a mixture of Alice and Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.

Annalise is a 10 year old girl who is a bit of a daydreamer. She likes to sing to the clouds and loves it when her mother reads her stories. She is very intelligent and appears to have a very old soul.

We journey with Annalise and her two sheep as she tries to discover things about herself. ‘We hop on garden stones, islands, mountaintops and clouds: we traverse labyrinths, garden trails, hallways and corridors; up stairs and elevators and down tunnels, and through portals and doorways and elaborate gates.’
She likes to use song and rhyme in her everyday life, and on this journey with her now talking sheep, they use it to help Annalise learn more about her life. We meet a lot of other interesting characters who also guide Annalise in the right direction so that she can return to her mother.

It is a story for the imagination as nothing is as it appears. It is a fabulous story about life and the struggles we have within ourselves. It is a great book for the 10-14 year old age group.

Review: Angels Unawares – Fall From Grace by Sofie Couch

Author: Sofie Couch
Title: Angels Unawares – Fall From Grace
Series: Angels Unawares #1
Publisher: Self-Published through Amazon
Published: July 15th 2010
Format: ebook supplied by author for review

Check out my review for Moonshine (Prequel) here.

Summary from Amazon
The Grim Reaper can kill with a touch. (Too bad for the girl he loves.)

Grace Breeden sees dead people. But why then can't she see her late mother? "Blue guys", as Grace refers to them, roam the earth searching for their opportunity to transcend, but one particularly persistent blue guy is shadowing Grace, involving her in near misses that lead her to surmise that there's something a bit "grim" about this spectre.

Keeping her friends close and the Angel of Death closer, she tries to save her living family from the reaper, but someone, or something, is threatened by her gifts... and wants her dead.

Angels Unawares was the first book in the series that Sofie had written, but I think the series is better if you read the Prequel, Moonshine, first. We meet all the cousins and friends in Moonshine, and it makes it easier to understand the plot better. (I have done a review Moonshine too.) I was captivated by the storyline from the very first chapter.

In Angels Unawares, we meet two new characters that weren't involved in the first book, Moonshine. Grace is Rivanna's cousin (Christina and Stewart too), and after tragic circumstances turned their lives upside-down, her father moved them both to Poropotank, (Gloucester County, Virginia) into her Grandmothers old farmhouse. Like the rest of her cousins, Grace also has an ability, which we find out about at the end of the first chapter (and I did not see it coming).
We also meet the mysterious Salter. He comes across as a bit of a shady character and after being around Grace for a while, his life appears to shift. He seems to be tied to Grace and we discover how deep their bond is as the story unfolds.

This book, in the most part, is written from two points of view, Grace and Salter. There is one small section towards the end of the book that is written from a third person, but it does help in the telling of the story.
I love how Sofie creates characters that aren't normal. They all seem to have a disability, disfigurement or some other problem that makes them damaged. None of them have just a normal perfect life, they all have some sort of fault somewhere.

It seems to me that Angels Unawares was a small part of a much bigger picture and it was setting the scene for more important and life altering things to come in future books. There were a few characters that were in Moonshine that didn't get a mention in this story, but I hope we see them in the next books!
Overall, it was a fantastic read. Sofie has done a great job creating a fictional story in a very real place and I can't wait to see what happens next in Poropotank, Gloucester County!!

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community. Parajunkee

Here’s this week’s question:
Worst cover? What is the worst cover of a
book that you've read and loved?

This was a bit of a hard one, so I checked out my books and I came up with Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. This actually is my FAVOURITE series, I luuv Curran so much, Kate too I guess, but definitely Curran!! But I don’t like the original cover. The second one is better I think but a real lion’s head would have looked awesome. What do you think?

Savage by Willow Rose - Blog Tour/Review/Giveaway

Title: Savage
Author: Willow Rose
Series: Daughters of the Jaguar #1
Publisher: DMC
Published: June 15th 2012
Format: eBook supplied for Tour

Summary from Goodreads

The year is 1983. Christian is 22 years old when he leaves his home in Denmark to spend a year in Florida with a very wealthy family and go to med-school. A joyful night out with friends is shattered by an encounter with a savage predator that changes his life forever. Soon he faces challenges he had never expected. A supernatural gift he has no idea how to embrace. A haunting family in the house next door. A spirit-filled girl who seems to carry all the answers. An ancient secret hidden in the swamps of Florida. One life never the same. One love that becomes an obsession. Two destinies that will be forever entangled.

Savage is a paranormal romance with some language, violence, and sexual situations recommended for ages sixteen and up

 My Review

This wasn’t the typical Paranormal book I was expecting it to be.  I thought it was more about the destinies of the main characters, their histories and their developing relationships. It was a fair way into the book before anything Paranormal occurs.

In Savage we meet Christian; he is extremely good looking with his blue eyes, blonde curly hair and perfect body. He is also incredibly smart with a photographic memory. When he lived in Denmark he was quite the ladies man who broke a girl’s heart on more than one occasion. He wasn’t one for forming relationships.

He moves in with Dr & Mrs Kirk and their 19 year old daughter Heather. They are like his wealthy Foster family that he lives with while in Florida. Heather is very attractive as well and they quickly make a connection.

After a tragic accident near the start of the book, Christian’s life changes drastically. He meets the mysterious family next door and the beautiful Aiyana. He begins to question the direction of his life; whether to continue with his medical studies or to pursue his love of music. And he is drawn to Aiyana. She understands him better than anyone else and she tries to help him with the changes that have happened to him.

This is the first book that I have read which is told only from the Males perspective. When I have previously read a males POV, they appear to be quite in touch with their feminine side. Christian is not like that at all. He has confidence in abundance and is used to women falling for him. But if something doesn’t go his way he buries the pain and moves on like it doesn’t affect him, by drinking and hunting animals or women!!

Although the book is set in 1983, the narrator seems to be recalling the plot. It is all about the bigger picture and he is showing us the circumstances which lead to what will happen. He reminisces about his Mother and mentions a few things that haven’t occurred yet, which don’t relate to what is happening now.

Savage is not a very fast-paced book, but it is a captivating read. I really enjoyed the way the plot unfolds, but it is not yet finished. This is only the start and I am curious to see where it is heading!
