Series: Throne of Glass #3
Genre: TA Fantasy
Published: September 2nd 2014

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

I love a great fantasy read and I think that the Throne of Glass series delivers it every time. It has that ancient feel, with magic and kingdoms, with all the plotting and manipulation that has you flicking the pages. I was immersed in the storyline, in the magic and the characters that I have come to love. And now that I am finished, I am dying to see what is going to happen next!

In the beginning of this book Celaena began as the arrogant assassin girl that I have grown to love in the first two books, but by the end she had grown into a confident and forceful woman, and her journey was not an easy one. It was full of hurdles, tests and spending a lot of time with the fae Prince, Rowan. She faced a lot of her fears and learnt so much about her heritage, her magic and the world.

Although I followed Celaena closely, I also kept saw what was going with Chaol, Dorian and a few other characters. It was interesting to keep in touch with these characters and it has definitely deepened the plot. I was able to see what was going on in Adarlan, as well as other places, to see how widely spread this war will be.

Heir of Fire was a slow building story, but I can see that it is heading into something big. I enjoyed the new direction the author took me in and the ending has left me excited to see what is going to happen in the world now. I travelled a lot of distance and met so many characters, both good and bad and I can see there are plenty of dark times ahead! I am looking forward to diving back into this world, even though it’ll be a long wait!

  3. Sarah J. Maas seems to be very consistent in both her writing, and delivery of this series which are really good signs. Jessica is all over these books, but I might read 'em 'just for me' because of all the hype surrounding them. Fab review!

  17. I kind of skimmed your review, Naomi, because I haven't started this series yet, and in the third book's review, there's bound to be at least one spoiler from the first or second book.
It's great to know that you still love this, though :)
