Review: Madly and Wolfhardt by M.Leighton

Title: Madly and Wolfhardt
Author: M. Leighton
Series: Madly #2
Published Date: July 22nd 2011

Book Description

Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

The first spirit to arrive is that of Ulrich Wolfhardt, a man that was once obsessed with wolves and a young maiden he would follow through the woods. After a bite from a wolf, Wolfhardt’s obsession with the girl became an unnatural hunger and the young maiden’s grandmother cursed him with a fate worse than death. And now he’s back…with a vengeance and a bite that can infect others as well.

Madly must learn the identity of Wolfhardt’s descendant and stop him before he kills again and spreads his curse across the earth. But the only person strong enough to help Madly is Jackson, the Sentinel who vowed to protect her and the one person capable of breaking her heart. Can Madly resist forbidden love long enough to save the world from Wolfhardt? Or will she have to sacrifice her heart and her destiny to save the ones she loves?

My Review

I have found that M. Leighton writes amazing books and this was no exception! I was so hooked after finishing book 1 this morning that I had to get Madly and Wolfhardt straight away. I was quite intrigued by the whole story and I couldn’t put it down, it was simply sensational!!

The story takes off right where Madly finished, with Madly and Jackson working together to track down Wolfhardt. I enjoyed the mysterious side to the story as they try to figure out who Wolfhardt may be and who he is trying to track. I didn’t pick who it was going to be until the very end which was refreshing as I often find that books can be quite predictable in that way!

Madly’s emotions are all over the shop, she knows what she is feeling, but because Jackson is such a closed off person and able to hide his emotions, she is constantly double-guessing herself. They both know that Royalty, like Madly, can never tie with a Sentinel, but there is no doubt that the attraction is there. I think that is why this is such a lively read because we can see them give in some times but then withdraw just as quickly, trying to keep the distance.

Aidan and Jersey return in Wolfhardt, and we see their characters develop further as there are a few new faces introduced to the story too. I liked how they interact with the characters, which gave more depth to the plot.

After reading Madly, I was expecting an abrupt ending in Wolfhardt, which of course happened, but I’m not too disappointed. I have plenty of unanswered questions however and I look forward to seeing how it all works out. I love Michelle’s writing style and if you haven’t read anything of hers, I highly recommend you give her a try!!

Here is a small teaser from Madly and Wolfhardt

“Is that what you wanted?  For me to kiss you?” Jackson asked quietly, his hands drifting lazily up and down my sides.

As I watched, his pupils swelled to eclipse the azure of his eyes and his gaze flickered to my mouth and back.

“Mmm,” I murmured, unable to speak past the lump of excitement in my throat.

“You asked for it,” he whispered, tilting his head to one side and lowering his lips to mine.

The first touch of his soft mouth was feather light, little more than the kiss of the wind on my skin.  But in that brief contact, electricity passed between us, a jolt that made my lips tingle, and I wanted more.

As if he could read my mind, Jackson obliged.  Bringing one big hand up to cup the back of my head, he angled his face and deepened the kiss.

I felt the pressure of his mouth everywhere.  It spread like fingers of flame down my neck and chest and puddled like boiling lava in my stomach.  It overflowed and ran in hot rivulets down my legs, setting fire to my toes.  My lips parted and I felt as much as heard Jackson’s groan, his breath flooding my mouth with moist warmth.

About the Author....

M. Leighton is a native of Ohio, but she relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: writing fiction. Thirteen of Michelle's novels can now be found on Amazon, as well as several other sites. She's currently working on sequels, though her mind continues to churn out new ideas, exciting plots and quirky characters. Pick one up and enjoy a wild ride through the twists and turns of her vivid imagination.

About Michelle:  I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined.  I'm convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace.  I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.
