Book Description

This is no fairy tale…

Haunted by nightmares of a black dog, sick to death of my mind-numbing career and heart-numbing fiancé, I impulsively walked out of my life—and fell into Faerie. Terrified, fascinated, I discover I possess a power I can’t control: my wishes come true. After an all-too-real attack by the animal from my dreams, I wake to find myself the captive of the seductive and ruthless fae lord Rogue. In return for my rescue, he demands an extravagant price—my firstborn child, which he intends to sire himself…

With no hope of escaping this world, I must learn to harness my magic and build a new life despite the perils—including my own inexplicable and debilitating desire for Rogue. I swear I will never submit to his demands, no matter what erotic torment he subjects me to…

My Review

When I began this book I was a bit confused by it. The main character Jennifer/Gwynn seems to be floating through the beginning of the book. She doesn’t seem to be making her own decisions but is guided by another force. When I read further into the story, I started to connect more with Gwynn as she had a lot to deal with in the Faerie world. The plot became really intense and it really sucked me into the crazy world of manipulative faeries!!

Jennifer (her name on earth) or Gwynn (the name they use in faerie, which she is mostly known as) is a Professor, has a boyfriend and was leading a simple life until one night she wandered to Devil’s Tower. She has been drawn to the area and after staying the night decides to explore around Devil’s Tower, but ends up waking in faerie. This is when her life will change forever.

She is rescued from the jaws of the Black Dog and ends up at Lord Rogue’s castle, where he tries to help Gwynn. The powers that she possesses are unharnessed so she wants her to learn to control them. It is one big step for her to try and gain some control but her survival depends on it. She has no friends in Faerie and no one that she trusts, so she appears weak.

All faeries are manipulative and the ones we meet here are no exception. They are detailed when it comes to bargaining power and leave no stone unturned. So when negotiations commence for Gwynn to pay back the faeries for their services to help her, everyone wants a piece of her, not only Rogue, but the healer and other Faeries too.

From here the story gets intense as we travel with Gwynn to start her training that can be described as torture. I felt connected to Gwynn from here as we endured it all with her and I realised I really liked her. She turns out to be one tough chick and makes me proud to be human! We aren’t as fragile as we look!!

The storyline built more the longer I read it. It became quite powerful and the character development was amazing!! Gwynn goes from a simple girl to an independent and driven woman. She has plans to escape faerie and no one will stand in her way. She has been abandoned and has to find her own way to get what she wants. Rogue has always been upfront with Gwynn and what he wants from her but she does her best to resist him. He is so confident but finds Gwynn a bit of a handful and not as easy as he thought she would be. He is a great character and keeps the edge to the book both with his passion and the way he can manipulate people.

Overall I found it a fantastic read and can’t wait to see how Gwynn and Rogue will stir up the land of Faerie, they have taken on more than they bargained for!!!

About the Author

Jeffe Kennedy took the crooked road to writing, stopping off at neurobiology, religious studies and environmental consulting before her creative writing began appearing in places like Redbook, Puerto del Sol, Wyoming Wildlife, Under the Sun and Aeon. An erotic novella, Petals and Thorns, came out under her pen name of Jennifer Paris in 2010, heralding yet another branch of her path, into erotica and romantic fantasy fiction. Since then, an erotic short, Feeding the Vampire, and another erotic novella, Sapphire, have hit the shelves.

Her contemporary fantasy novel, Rogue’s Pawn, book one in A Covenant of Thorns, was published in July, 2012. Jeffe lives in Santa Fe, with two Maine coon cats, a border collie, plentiful free-range lizards and frequently serves as a guinea pig for an acupuncturist-in-training.
