Book Description

Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think that accepting a role in an unknown film would toss his career into overdrive. His new fame has cost him dearly; anonymity is no longer an option. His fans stalk him, the paparazzi hound him, and Hollywood studios all want a piece of him. Despite all of that, Ryan Christensen craves the most basic of human needs - to have love in his heart and privacy in his life.

Taryn Mitchell, the story's protagonist, is a realist. She's been feigning contentment, running the family pub in Seaport, Rhode Island, while quietly nursing her own internal heartaches. Her feet are fairly glued to the ground and she doesn't buy into all the hype that has descended on her tiny, coastal town. In her world, men are safe if they're kept at a distance.

Fate has other plans for these two when their paths cross one sunny afternoon. A group of female fans has attacked him, leaving his shirt torn, his face cut, and Ryan in obvious distress. Bonds between them form from the most dramatic of circumstances while jealousy, insecurity, and the stress of his celebrity life try to tear them apart.

Through all the tabloid lies, secrecy, and pressure, can Taryn's peace and Ryan's high-profile insanity live together in harmony?

My Review

I didn’t realise how long this book was and it actually took me 3 days to complete it. I did enjoy it, but it probably could’ve been broken up into more than one book because by the time I got to the end, I was a little like, ‘whew, it’s done.’

Taryn and Ryan are great characters that I really liked, they both have very similar personalities and enjoy the same hobbies. However they have both been hurt in relationships in the past so they are slow at forming a relationship. They begin as friends enjoying one another’s company and things build slowly from there. It is a very bumpy journey for the both of them as there are a lot of obstacles that they have overcome. Ryan’s popularity is a big issue as fans and the paparazzi are always on his tale, so most of the times they meet are in private. Taryn has been hurt by guys before and can’t see how a long term relationship can work out for them. It becomes a very emotional ride for the both of them.

Taryn is down to earth; she doesn’t see Ryan as a celebrity, just a guy with a difficult job. She runs her own business and is quite smart and has no interest in Ryan’s money. Taryn has a lot of insecurities, with men being the cause of her problems. She has dated lots of deadbeats and doesn’t know how to really let a good man into her life. There are many times where Ryan wants to pay for things but she doesn’t like to take his money, as she has been the provider in her previous relationships. They have a great connection but not everything runs smoothly.

Ryan is the perfect guy!! He doesn’t have the bad boy persona that I usually like, he is nice, friendly and normal, oh, and extremely famous!! Women everywhere want a piece of him!! When I first met him my heart cracked a little as he seems so fragile. He tries to maintain his composure most of the time, but Taryn meets him when he is under a lot of stress. I liked him immediately and fell for him a little more each time he opened up for Taryn. He’s just so sweet!!

How the author exposed me to the life of a famous person was eye opening. I think a lot of the time we tend to forget that Hollywood Actors are actually people too. They have feelings, emotions and lives off screen so it was entertaining to see how the author portrayed Ryan’s life and how Taryn was able to adapt to the lifestyle also.

The story has a few climaxes and that is why I thought the book could be broken apart. It was a long story and very well written, but I was a little relieved to get to the end of the book. There weren't many bedroom scenes between these characters and I hoped there were going to be more. The depth of emotion in this story is mind-blowing as the characters have so much to overcome and they face many ups and downs whilst building their relationship. The author told Taryn and Ryan’s story beautifully and I will definitely read more books published by this author!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Simon & Schuster Inc!!

  1. Despite not having enough heat, the characters sound fleshed out and the tale well written. How many pages was it?
