Review ~ Tattoo Thief by Heidi Joy Tretheway

Tattoo Thief (Tattoo Thief, #1)Title: Tattoo Thief (Gavin & Beryl)
Author: Heidi Joy Tretheway
Series: Tattoo Thief #1
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: October 8th 2013

22-year-old Beryl doesn't know why Gavin Slater trashed his penthouse, abandoned his dog and fled the country. But as his house sitter, she must pick up the pieces for the front man of the white-hot rock band Tattoo Thief.

When ultra-responsible Beryl confronts the reckless rock star, she wants to know more than just what to do with his mess. Why is he running? What’s he searching for? And is he responsible for the death of his muse?

New York newbie Beryl must find her footing in Gavin’s crazy world of the ultra-wealthy to discover her own direction and what can bring him back.

Steamy, sassy and tender, Tattoo Thief is a story of breaking from a comfort zone to find a second chance.
I am hosting Tyler & Stella (book 2) on my blog as part of the tour. After a few pages into Tyler & Stella's story, I was thinking that I wished I had read Gavin & Beryl's book first. After contacting the author and exchanging a few emails, she sent me a copy of the first book and I am ecstatic that she did because I absolutely loved Gavin & Beryl's story. I have read a lot of NA books featuring all types of people but this one has its own unique style!

I'll begin by setting the scene… Beryl takes in a new job in property management, with a family friend because she wants to get out of her small home town. She moves to New York and her first job is to get Gavin Slaters place back into order, as he has left it trashed. Beryl resents Gavin and is appalled with what he's done and soon she is exchanging emails with the lead singer of Tattoo Thief. Her job requires her to go above and beyond, and she has to move into the apartment because she has to look after his dog and refurnish the apartment. Their friendship grows online and soon their attraction grows into something more.

That is the part that I really liked about this book, how their relationship developed over the internet! They were able share things with one another that no one else knew. Beryl was quick to say what she really thought and didn't hold back, and the hard truth really set Gavin back on track. What I also loved was watching Beryl start her life in New York. It didn't begin as well as she hoped, but her life soon starts to look better for her. She looks at the positives of her new job and it soon becomes obvious that she is very good at it.

Beryl is an easy going character and she sure stepped up and took responsibility for her new life. She is quite a confident girl and isn't afraid of new challenges and I like that about her. She lives a pretty normal life in New York: going out, attending functions and even going on a few dates. Gavin is sex I personified… That is why he is the lead singer!! Going off Beryl’s description, I could not wait for her to finally see him in the flesh!! Gavin has been through a tragedy that has unsettled him and that is what sparked his adventure. He is unsure of who he really is anymore and wants distance between himself and his old life. Chatting with Beryl helps him more than they both realise. I found myself swooning over Gavin, even though he hasn't met Beryl face to face, he does some very sweet things!!

I think I decided on 5 stars for numerous reasons.
1.   I liked the authors writing style; she quickly sucked me into Beryl's life and I enjoyed exploring New York with her.
2.  I enjoyed the storyline; it was cute and it was entertaining to watch it all unravel.
3.  The characters are well fleshed out and I felt connected to Beryl.
4.  The book made me feel good. It was a pleasurable read and I felt good reading it.
5.  And who can go past that cover!! Yum!

The relationship between Gavin & Beryl developed slowly and I was glad it wasn't one of those love at first sight situations. There are some saucy scenes, real life moments and plenty of snarky comments that had me giggling! However, I would've liked to see more of the band, but I'm sure if is coming in the next books. I am looking forward to read Stella's story, because I was left a little conflicted about her… So let's dive into the next book immediately, shall we? *wink*

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Oh that's fun! I've read one other where a lot of the relationship was based on them meeting over the internet/chatting there. Kinda neat and so fitting for these days. Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'd not seen it before. Sounds like one I'd enjoy :)

  3. Tattoo Thief sounds incredible, Naomi. I love, love it when we get to see a relationship really develop over time rather than insta-love or insta-lust. (not that I don't enjoy those as well ;) I'm gonna have to add this to my tbr. Thanks for a great review!

  11. I don't like to read the second book in a series without reading the first either - even if they're supposed to be standalone books. I just always feel like I'm missing out on something!

I totally agree, (and I feel the same way) Nicole! That's why I put the first book on $0.99 sale so you can grab it first. Each book is a standalone love story about a different member of the band.

  13. Beryl is definitely a great character and I was glad that she spoke her mind and didn't hold back. And Gavin, although he's slightly troubled to begin with, was easy to fall in love with! Grab this one girl.... for less than a dollar, you won't be disappointed!!
