Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

After my post of Ten Tiny Breaths went live, my Author friend Jeannine Colette suggested we read the second book together and I was ‘hell yeah!’ because it’s always great to read a book and being able to discuss it immediately with someone who has the details fresh on their mind. Despite our time differences we made it work, and it was one helluva ride!!

One Tiny Lie takes place a few years after Ten Tiny Breaths and it features Livie, Kacey’s younger sister that we met in the first book. She was the responsible one who seemed to know exactly what she wanted in life. Livie has decided to follow her father’s dream of her going to Princeton, which was a huge change and a chance for self discovery. Before she left, however, Kacey tricked Livie into seeing her therapist, and after the move he continued to ring her weekly. He pushed her boundaries and encouraged her to do a lot of things outside of her usual comfortzone.

Livie’s first night in college is spent with her sister and her roommate Reagan. They head to a toga party and while Livie is enjoying a Jell-o shot she meets Ashton, and ends up punching him in the jaw!

He deserved it. He didn't just steal my shooter. He stole my first kiss. ~ pg 15

I loved this moment, where Livie was a little more carefree and expressed exactly what she’s thinking – a little liquid courage will do that to a girl! Not all details of that night are revealed to the reader but along the way we learn more as Livie remembers. Livie continues to be the responsible sister throughout the story, but there are a few more moments when she lets go and I loved seeing that side to Livie.

My first impression of Ashton was that he was a bit arrogant and full of himself, but I could see there was more to him. At times he let his walls down and I could see the turmoil and sadness that he tried to hide behind that cocky attitude. He never spoke about himself and would constantly push Livie away, only to turn up in her life again. The sexual tension between them was thick, and the constant push and pull between them kept them from giving into their desires and to one another. I loved getting to know both of them and I constantly wondered what secrets Ashton was hiding.

Towards the end of the book my emotions were in turmoil! My heart ached for all the characters and there were multiple times that I shed a tear. K.A. Tucker has a way of ripping out my emotions and bringing these characters to life so that they feel real! Now that I’ve finished the book, I am dying to get the next one to see what happens for Cain!

This was a sweet but heartbreaking moment between Livie and Ashton.

I know I shouldn’t ask, but I do it anyway. “What you said in that note. Why?”
He looks away for a moment and I watch his jaw clench. When he meets my eyes, there’s resignation there. “Because you’re not a one-night girl, Irish.” Leaning in to place a kiss on my jawline, he whispers, “You’re my forever girl.”
His hands slip away from me and he turns. With my heart pounding in my throat, I stand there and watch as he calmly walks to the table to grab his jacket.
And then he walks out the door.
