I have finally boarder the Tucker band wagon! Yay! I had no idea what I was missing until I read Chasing River, and now Ten Tiny Breaths. I am excited to get more, I tell you!
Title: Ten Tiny Breaths
Author: K.A. Tucker
Series: Ten Tiny Breaths #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.
Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.
But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

After reading Chasing River – my first K.A. Tucker read – I decided it was time to pick up her first NA Contemporary Romance read, Ten Tiny Breaths. I knew that Tucker could create characters that would melt my heart, and she certainly did in this read!
Kacey’s life shattered four years earlier when she lost four of the closest people in her life. Every detail of the accident ripped my heart to shreds, and I could see the devastation it left behind and how hard Kacey worked to survive. Moving to Miami with her sister is the fresh start they both needed; they were able to start over, make friends, and Kacey was able to find some sort of resemblance of herself once again. What Kacey didn’t count on was the attraction that she had with the new guy, Trent. From their first meeting there was sparks and flirting, and it became more intense over time.
I liked seeing Kacey and Livie adapt to their new home. They formed strong friendships with a few people, especially Storm and Mia. Kacey found it a little difficult, because she still has a few issues from the accident, but tried harder because of her sister. I even liked Tanner, the apartment manager, who had a kind heart deep down. Cain, Ben and Nate from the bar were good reliable guys too.
The relationship between Kacey and Trent grew gradually throughout the story. They took things slow and got to know one another, but I could see that Trent was holding something back. I didn’t figure it out immediately, but I did long before Kacey, and it didn’t take anything away from the story either. I still felt the shock, just like Kacey!
There was a deeper meaning to this read too, PTSD. If not treated properly it will continue to affect you, and bring you down. I liked the way Tucker handled this in Kacey’s story; she appeared to be fine and happy, until something happened that triggered her. I have quickly become a fan of Tucker’s; she introduced me to an incredible world and believable characters that were close to my heart. I closed the book and took Ten Tiny Breaths of my own, before jumping on Amazon to get the next read in the series!
Hehe... This was a amusing but sweet moment for Trent and Kacey!
“So, thanks for showing me my first alligator and not having your way with me.” I busy myself with searching my purse for my keys. “l’m glad l still have all my limbs and—”
Trent’s soft lips cut my rambling short. His arms wrap around me, one hand skimming the small of my back while the other cups the back of my neck. He pulls me close against him, his mouth working slowly against mine, his movements controlled, as if he’s restraining himself from doing what he wants to do. Sensing this shoots jittery waves of heat through me. My arms lose all strength and drop to my sides, my purse and keys tumbling to the ground along with them.
