Being a goddess is a lot less fun than you might think. Especially when you’re only a half goddess, and you only found out about it recently, and you still don’t know what you’re doing half the time. And when you’ve just used your not-so-reliable powers to burglarize the booby-trapped office of a vampire mob boss.

Yeah, that part sucks.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Cassandra Palmer, aka the Pythia, the freshly minted chief seer of the supernatural world. After all, Cassie still has to save a friend from a fate worse than death, deal with an increasingly possessive master vampire, and prevent a party of her own acolytes from unleashing a storm of fury upon the world. Totally just your average day at the office, right?
I have been hanging to read this book for what feels like FOREVER after the cliffhanger ending in Hunt the Moon! I must say that it has everything that I expected but again I am still frustrated!! But I’m not as nearly as frustrated as what Cassie is!! OMG! All she wants is to get Pritkin back, and there is always something in the way. And every time she turns her head, new details come to light as to her role of Pythia that have been kept from her. How is she supposed to do her role without all the facts?? No wonder the girl nearly dies everyday!!

Cassie is as tough as ever and is determined to get Pritkin back in her life. She is not sure where she stands with both Mircea and Pritkin, but at the moment her focus is on bringing Pritkin back, as he did make a pledge to serve her. She is a kind person and everything she sets out to do she does from the goodness in her heart, but she has no clue how to express her feelings to those she really cares about. The war between all the worlds is beginning to be too much for her and she wants the best people behind her if the God’s are trying to come back to earth.

There were a lot of characters that we saw again from earlier books but some we did not, and I was really hoping to see them. We get glimpses of some others, enough to have Cassie confused about certain relationships as well. And not all of the re-occuring characters are good either ;)

As usual, we travel through time a little, but not back as far in time as we have previously. The book also goes into a new dimension and Karen puts so much detail into the people, places and creatures that the fantasy world she builds makes you feel like you are actually there. I love how well she does it. The action scenes are full on, with next to no rest in between, it’s either fight or die, and Cassie is not going to go down easy!! And there was still plenty of action and destruction at good ol’ Dante’s! The only thing that annoyed me about this book is the ending … Again!! It has been left wide open, and all I wanted to do was flick the page and continue the story! I’m not sure when we are expecting the next book in the series, but I am keen to get my hands on a copy!!

I received a copy of this book from the Publisher, Penguin Australia via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

  7. Great review :-) I found this to be a hard review to write because I gobbled the book up and wanted to just spout off about it - but that's almost impossible to do because it's so full of spoilers!! And I forgot that this was one of the Aussie books. When I saw it on Netgalley for Australian bloggers only (at first - it did open up later to us less cool people) I found myself really wishing I was an Aussie LOL!
