Author: Jessica Sorensen
Series: Nova #1
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: September 3rd 2013Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she's getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.
Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn't want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he's done, what he's lost. He's sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he's too damaged to get close to her, yet she's the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?
When you begin reading a book and your eyes
well up twice in the prologue, you know you are heading into an emotional,
heart wrenching journey. Breaking Nova
did that to me and more as I was swept away in the story and the struggles that
the two main characters have.
Nova had to deal
with a few deaths and found it hard to understand the hows and whys of both of
them. She blames herself for them both even though there was nothing she could
of done. She goes from that strong, energetic girl to a depressed, confused
girl who is not sure where she belongs. The more I understood her and her
troubles, the more my heart ached for her. She can be so good, but her past
brings her down so much that she is unable to move on.
Quinton has had his
own share of tragedy, losing people close to him, but he has had the blame put
on him from the people that are closest to him. He has been abandoned by those
who should've loved him the most. He is lost and turns to his addiction for
peace. When he meets Nova, he finds a ray of sunlight for his dark days. Quinton’s
past also shattered my heart as he is unable to forgive himself, let alone let
people in.
Breaking Nova is a powerful read that clutches your
heart. The characters hit so low that there is only one way to go but up and
forward with their lives. Jessica
Sorenson has done a remarkable job weaving this story together and knowing
she has this kind of inspiration to write a book like this is simply amazing. I
cried mostly, but I laughed as well and was able to understand the characters.
They are damaged, but they can make things better for themselves if they are
willing to get help and try. I loved this story and am keen to see how things
continue for a Nova and Quinton.
