Book Description

Deep in the backwoods of North Dakota, twenty-one year old Sarah Ross is searching for a missing child when she is attacked by a glowing-eyed, transparent... creature. Sarah survives, destroying the monster by using mysterious abilities she didn't even know she had. Bloody and bruised, Sarah flees the scene and runs directly into Evan Valente, a handsome, charismatic stranger who helps her back to safety. But what is Evan doing out in the forest at five in the morning? Turning to a healer, Sarah is shocked to learn her eyes bear the mark of the Indigo Child-an evolved human with the ability to feel the emotions of others. But her indigo aura also makes her an easy target for those who wish to consume her powerful essence. Soon, Sarah is falling deeply in love with Evan and wants nothing more than to follow her heart and trust that he is the man he says he is. But she can't ignore the lingering feeling that Evan is hiding a terrible secret. The deeper she digs, the more danger she faces, leading her on a course that will force her to face the darkest, innermost parts of her soul.

My Review

What a great ride! Anything involving magic and auras keeps me intrigued and the direction of this story certainly captured me! I had read a few chapters and my husband asked me what I was reading, and I replied an interesting book which has spirits which try to inhabit other people. I really like the main character and she has genuine friends. But I'm not sure about the new guy she has met. He seems too perfect and has popped up at just the right time....so I’ll see how it goes…

Sarah has always been an empath and reading people's emotions has been easy for her. While camping she hears a voice and goes into the bush to answer the call for help. She stumbles upon a shack and runs into a spirit who tries to take her soul from her. She didn't realise that there were spirits out there that could do that, so she channels her inner powers to protect herself. While fleeing she literally runs into Evan who appears to be a knight in shining armour. I was initially suspicious of him, but like Sarah, he charmed me easily.

Sarah is a genuine person and has respect for the people she holds close. Her friends are very supportive but are curious about the new guy that has shown up in her life because Sarah has been burnt badly before. What I really liked about Sarah as her no bull crap attitude, you cross her and she won't forgive you easily, you have to earn that trust back and even if you do she still is sceptical.Evan just seems to know how to push the right buttons and is way too attractive for his own good!

As the cover of the book implicates, the book is about Sarah's aura, which is an indigo colour and is therefore rare. But with the help of the natives in the area, Sarah is able to understand more about herself and the people that she is close to.

I really enjoyed the direction of this story and I thought that Joanne Brothwell's writing style was beautiful. The ancient magic and the soul travel concepts were exciting. Stories containing good and bad magic are always an entertaining read for me and Stealing Breath was just dazzling! As usual, the chemistry with the two main characters is undeniable but I love the romance aspect, so it was a definite plus for me. I am hanging for the next book now!!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
