I was so excited to start another book by Aly Martinez, as it had been a long time since I read her work. This was a fantastic beginning to this duet, and I couldn't hold back on picking up the sequel immediatley!

It's been a while since I've read a book by Aly Martinez, and after reading the blurb and sampling the first few chapters, I knew it was going to something that I would get swept away in. Boy did I ever! As soon as I finished this book, you bet I had to continue on immediately!!
My heart broke for the little girl in the prologue, having to suffer through something so horrific was mind-blowing. To have a boy come to her rescue while they both were so terrified eased her a little. Throughout the story I saw the sacrifices that they both made on that day, and how scared they both were. Jumping to the present, life had changed for them both, Caven was a Father and Hadley made her way back into his life. They both carried guilt and secrets and an attraction that they could not deny!
Caven changed a lot in a small amount of time; he took responsibility quickly, was fiercely protective of his little girl and it was adorable watching them interact. Hadley had pure intentions of coming back into their lives, but there was always something there that nagged at me. She fell quickly for Caven's girl, but she held some secrets close to her chest. It was good to watch them all get closer and for Caven to let Hadley into his heart.
What I wasn't expecting was the twist! I really thought I had the story figured out, but the storyline took a little turn that threw me. I think that Aly Martinez has done an incredible job of building this story and creating characters that have left me wanting more. She has dealt with sensitive subjects and woven the story together perfectly! As you can guess, I picked up the next book immediately!

I liked that Caven was quite forward with Hadley, putting all his feelings out there!
Silently, he stared at me, his gaze heavy and his jaw hard. His Adam’s apple bobbed before he licked his lips. “You should not have kissed me that night in the bathroom.”
I wrung my hands in front of me. “I know. I know. I know. And I—”
In a low gruff voice, he rumbled, “But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t have kissed you.”
My shock or relief didn’t have time to register before he took a long step forward, his arm hooking around my hips. Dragging me against his chest, he crashed his mouth down on mine, hard and punishing, filled with all the desperation of a starving man.
