Title: Fading Out
Author: Trisha Wolfe
Series: Living Heartwood #3
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: February 18th 2015

Love means fading out so another shines brighter.

Right clothes. Right school. Right fiancĂ©. As a Wyndemere, Arian’s expected to abide by the rules. The most important: be perfect. But Arian’s seemingly flawless life is far from it. An embarrassing expulsion from her parents’ alma mater spirals an already unhealthy obsession out of control, exposing a dark truth.

Faced with having to attend a small private college after a stint in rehab, Arian’s just ready to coast under the radar and repair some of the wreckage, but her father’s looming control is like a vise choking off her air supply.

When a run-in with Braxton’s beloved star quarterback, Ryder Nash, puts Arian squarely in the crosshairs of his devoted teammates, the last of her controlled, orderly world unhinges. As the pranks and paybacks escalate, Arian and Ryder’s rivalry takes a passionate turn. And once Arian glimpses beneath the all-star-athlete exterior Ryder projects, she realizes he’s far more than just a jock.

As their relationship intensifies, outside forces feel the threat. Outrunning their pasts doesn’t mean history won’t repeat itself, but Ryder can’t let that happen. He’s just one Championship game away from breaking the mold. Only one moment, one choice, might change everything.

Told from both Arian's and Ryder's POV. New Adult Contemporary Romance intended for readers 17 years of age and older.

The previous two books in the Living Heartwood series have been dark and ripped my soul to shreds, so it was kind of nice to pick up the next book in the series which had a lighter feel to it. Fading Out features Ari, who I met in Losing Track, and it focuses on her life now that she is out of rehab.

Ari was really a fun and feisty character to read about. Sure, she has her demons, but I just loved her kick-butt attitude in Fading Out! At times she was hesitant and talked herself into things, but once she made a decision she took charge of her life and that is what drew me to her. The darkness she deals with comes from years of the same fears but she seems to push them aside when it comes to Ryder.

Ryder was just so…human, I suppose. He is a little hesitant when it comes to girls that he pursues, and he always put his foot in it with Ari! I liked seeing him struggle to set things straight with her and it was amusing to see him backpedal!! Lol The reason for him being in college was to chase his Father’s dream of football. His father and ultimately his brother, put a lot of pressure on him to succeed and once Ari comes into his world, he starts to question what he wants.

Fading Out was a fun read for the most part; there’s swimming, underwear problems, a lot of bickering and plenty of sexual tension.  But it also had a serious side. Ari finds it hard to deal with stress and the life that has been carved for her, where Ryder harbours a lot of guilt from his past. When Ari and Ryder are together, however, they begin to find comfort and begin to open up and fight for what they want.

Although this is not as hardcore as the other books in the series, I really enjoyed the story that Trisha fused together. It still dealt with a health issue that affects many people in society and detailed the ups and downs a person would go through. I could see the support team building and loved how a character from the previous book popped in for support too. Altogether, it was beautifully written story and I loved how it all came together.

From an early age, Trisha Wolfe dreamed up fantasy worlds and characters and was accused of talking to herself. Today, she lives in South Carolina with her family and writes full time, using her fantasy worlds as an excuse to continue talking to herself.

  1. I just finished reading The Darkest Part. It was definitely an intense read so I'm pleased to hear that Fading Out is a little lighter.

  5. I giggled over the fact we both used 'feisty' to describe Ari! :) Yep, this one wasn't as dark as the others but it was a great addition to the series. I adore how the heartwood metaphor is carried through all the books. And I'm anxious to see what comes next! Great review, girl! Thanks for turning me on to this series. ;)

  11. This one sounds really good! I normally do not read books in this genre and I am so glad that I read this review today. I've been looking for something to break me out of the dystopian/fantasy kicker I've been on. Looks like I will have to start this from book one and that's okay by me.
    Great covers too.
