Review ~ Significance by Shelly Crane

Significance (Significance, #1)Title: Significance
Author: Shelly Crane
Series: Significance #1
Genre: YA Fantasy
Published: June 2011

Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating - barely - and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.

Then she saves the life of Caleb and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.

They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive.

Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.

Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?
I was hoping to really love this book, being a paranormal one and all, but for a change I didn't. It had a great concept, of soul mates etc, but the book seemed to drag. It turned into one of those insta-love books, with sweet moments and they both had some difficult events to work through along the way.

Maggie has had a tough last year, her mother left, her boyfriend dumped her, her father has forgotten about her because he's wallowing in self pity, and her grades have slipped. But she has still managed to graduate school. When she crosses paths with a handsome stranger when going to meet up with a friend, she finally perks up about her life. After that, things become a bit more complex, dealing with her new connection to an interesting family, where that has its own ups and downs.

Maggie was an ok character, and adapted to her new lifestyle very quickly. She didn't really question what happened and went with the flow quite easily. She was willing to stand up for what she believed, and did everything in her power to defend herself. I liked Caleb too, but he was quite a perfect character. We found that he had his doubts of his family heritage and wanted to be independent. But things quickly changed when he met Maggie.

The secondary characters were great too and in my opinion helped developed the storyline and the action and suspense in the book was entertaining. I just felt that things in this book fell into place too easily and I didn’t feel like the author kept my attention well enough. However, I will try the next book in the series to see whether things develop better.

These two books in the Significace series are currently free. Grab them while they're HAWT!!

  5. Great review! I did enjoy this series, because it was a sweet, adorable, and easy read. Though I do agree with you on some points, it did drag a bit and Maggie did accept everything a bit too easily. I actually did read the next books in the series, but never made it to the final book! Maybe I will one day :)

I loved your review, and I'm glad you gave the book a chance!!!

  12. I hope to continue the series one day. I just thought she would be more hesitant. But she is going to be a strong character once she has all the details. Thank you for stopping by!
