Review ~ Fireblood by Trisha Wolfe

Fireblood (Fireblood, #1)Title: Fireblood
Author: Trisha Wolfe
Series: Fireblood #1
Genre: YA Fantasy

To save a kingdom, Zara must choose between a prince who could be the answer and a rising rebellion that threatens to take control.

When Zara Dane is chosen to marry Prince Sebastian Hart, son of the man who ordered her father’s capture, Zara knows she must fight to save everything she loves from ruin.

Being betrothed to the prince means a life trapped behind the towering stone walls of the Camelot-forged realm. Under the watchful eye of the prince's first knight, Sir Devlan Capra, changing her future becomes difficult.

When an unlikely rebel reveals the truth about the deadly secrets that fuel King Hart’s twisted world, Zara’s path to rescue her father becomes clouded by deception. The Rebels clear her path by forcing Zara’s hand with an ultimatum: sway Prince Sebastian to join the Rebels, convincing him of his father’s evil nature, or they will take him out.

But Zara is uncertain about a future under the Rebels’ command and where the prince’s heart truly lies. She must decide who to trust, what to believe, and what she’s truly fighting for before the king destroys all of Karm, including her heart.
I have quickly become a fan of Trisha Wolfe’s after reading Of Silver and Beasts and The Darkest Part, but she has taken me by surprise yet again with Fireblood. It is an exciting story that pulled me into a futuristic world where the fears of a cruel ruler, force you to follow his rules or you will face the consequences. It was a gripping, action-packed read that had me flicking the pages rapidly.

The whole book is from the main characters POV, Zara Dane. We look at the world through her eyes and it soon becomes apparent of the amount of fear she lives in. She tries to keep to the shadows and avoids conflict to not only protect herself but her sick Father. Soon her life is thrown into turmoil and she is thrust into a whole new environment and has to make hard decisions as to whether she should fight or flee.

Zara, I liked from the very beginning. She portrays herself to be a shy and fragile girl, but we soon see how strong she can be. She endures heartbreak over and over, but somehow she is able to pull herself together and solider on. She grows so much as a person and by the end of the book I was proud of the girl that she became.

There are a couple of men that are in Zara’s sights; the light-haired, devilish Prince Sebastian and the dark-haired, handsome First Knight Devlan. Prince Sebastian I was unsure of at times, I could see the goodness in him, but at times a darker side would come out that would have me questioning him. Sir Devlan hides well behinds his mask and I was hoping we would be able to learn the secrets he was hiding. Together they both stir a lot of questions for Zara and the world she lives in. King Hart is a constant worry too. He rules with an iron fist, but from behind closed doors. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to unravel his plans.

Fireblood held my attention from cover to cover with the amount of action and plotting in it. And the way Trisha wove what we know of Camelot into this story was interesting too. It has a bit of a dark edge which I quite enjoyed and the world she built was fabulous. The sickness and fears of the outside world is what keeps the citizens under control. I was so caught up in the plot that at times I didn’t see when the twists were coming. I loved how the story played out and am excited to see what Trisha will bring us next from this world!

I received a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
