Goodreads Summary
"In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity."Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of "them." The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked--and given the ultimate choice. Die...or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend--a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what--and who--is worth dying for.

Ooh! What an exciting new twist with vampires! I was thinking it was like the movie 'I Am Legend' with vampires thrown into the mix! Definitely not like the normal Vampire books that are out there. And I really did enjoy this book. Julie Kagawa has done a great job writing this book and with a great storyline to boot.

There was so much hype going on about this book that I decided I had to go out and get it to see what all the fuss was about. I was a little disappointed when I was reading the book as I expected so much more. However, I did enjoy the story more the longer I read it. So by the end of the book I was getting excited about what was going to happen next. It is a great first book in the series, and I look forward to see what is going to come next!

  2. I have this book on my kindle, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I've been seeing mixed reviews, but I've heard such good things about her other series. I'm just on the fence. Your review reminds me that I need to take a look and read it, myself!

    Thanks!
    Liz

    1. Have you seen the I Am Legend movie? It is a bit slow in spots, and this book is in places too, but the storyline builds up, and thats what I enjoyed. It isn't fast-paced and action packed all the way through, but I thought it was a good read.
