Broken Knight by L.J. Shen ~ Review & Teaser (@lj_shen)

After I read this book, I realised it was the second book in the series. It can be read as a standalone, as it features a new couple. This read was quite angsty, but I enjoyed it regardless.

From USA Today and Washington Post bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a new, standalone romance about first loves, betrayal and loss.

Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.

Luna Rexroth is everyone’s favorite wallflower.
Sweet.
Caring.
Charitable.
Quiet.
Fake.
Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wants—namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.
Who taught her how to laugh.
To live.
To love.

Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.
Gorgeous.
Athletic.
Rugged.
Popular.
Liar.
This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.
But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore.
When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.
Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.

I've read a couple of L.J. Shen's books now, and when I came across this one, I was a little excited! I wanted to know the reasons why Luna didn't speak, the friendship between Luna and Knight and the protectiveness that he had for the girl who was so special to him.

Luna was a really sweet girl and she had a special bond with Knight, however they never managed to be on the same page at the same time. She ended up putting some space between them to grow into a stronger person. She didn't realise what effect that would have on Knight and the stress he was under.

Knight knew what he wanted, but never managed to get his girl. He was beginning to self destruct and became quite angry. He had issues at home that fuelled his downward spiral. There was a lot of push and pull between them, and he was quick to blame Luna when it came to the problems between them.

This was quite the angsty read, Luna and Knight went through a lot of hard times and some were heartbreaking. They were destined for one another, but it was a tough road getting there. I did feel that there was some unnecessary drama and at times Knight really annoyed me. In the end it was a good read, but not as mind blowing as another Shen book that I've read before.

All of these teasers made my heart ache! I had to share them all...

“I love you, Knight Cole. More than anything. Maybe even more than myself. But I don’t trust you with my heart. And when you hurt me like this, I feel little and vindictive. So vindictive, you shouldn’t trust me with yours. Whatever it is, we need to kill it before it kills us, you understand? We can’t be together.”

“I love your brother and your father more than I love myself. I would die for them. Fight for them until the bitter end. Go against the whole world for them. But you…” She dragged her face up to look at me. Her eyes were full of tears. “I’ve always loved you just a tiny bit more. My regal, rebel boy. My legendary hellraiser, my sad prince, my unlikely savior, my beautiful, broken Knight.”

“Why are you looking at me like that?” I panted. “Because,” he paused, swallowing, “I want to remember the moment you officially became mine.”

L.J. ShenL.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets peoples’ birthdays and
never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
