Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige ~ Review & Teaser Tuesday (@daniellempaige, @BloomsburySyd)

The first book in the Stealing Snow series was officially released over the past month, and after reading it I found some prequel novellas I need to get my hands on! It was a great start to the series, and I'm keen to see how it all unfolds!
Title: Stealing Snow
Author: Danielle Paige
Series: Stealing Snow #1
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Published: October 6th 2016 (first published September 20th 2016)

Seventeen-year-old Snow lives within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down, she knows she doesn't belong there, but she has no memory of life outside, except for the strangest dreams. And then a mysterious, handsome man, an orderly in the hospital, opens a door – and Snow knows that she has to leave …

She finds herself in icy Algid, her true home, with witches, thieves, and a strangely alluring boy named Kai. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she's destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change everything. Heroine or villain, queen or broken girl, frozen heart or true love, Snow must choose her fate …

A wonderfully icy fantastical romance, with a strong heroine choosing her own destiny, Danielle Paige's irresistibly page-turning Snow Queen is like Maleficent and Frozen all grown up.

I've been in the mood for a little bit of fantasy, and lucky for me I had a copy of
Stealing Snow to jump into! The story began with Snow, locked away in the Whittaker Psychiatric Institute, where I was able to get to know her. Her life began to change after an incident, a few unusual visits, and the disappearance of someone she loved. She soon made the trek into the Fae world to Algid, where she found herself in danger and doing anything to save herself and to find the person she loved most.

I felt sorry for Snow in the beginning, as she'd been locked away for so long and felt cut off from everything. She only had one friend who she wasn't allowed to see any more, and her relationship with her mother was a little strained. When Snow was in Algrid, she made a lot of acquaintances that were willing to help her, but she was unsure of who she could trust. She was told about a prophecy, which was starting to unfold, and she was constantly in danger. She learned a lot about her powers, which she continued to develop along the way.

Snow was focused on her goal, but meeting new people was a bit overwhelming at times. Her feelings for both Jagger and Kai were making things complicated. One boy was very forward about his feelings for her, where the other was a bit closed off, but her feelings for the one person she was looking for were always there.

This is the first book I've read by Danielle Paige, and while I enjoyed it, a lot happened throughout the story and it felt like information overload at times. I started in the real world, then jumped all over Algrid. I was introduced to a lot of characters, and all of them play big parts throughout the story. There were a few twists that were thrown in that will continue into the next book. I look forward to see how things turn out, what relationships will persevere and who will actually win Snow's heart.

Snow was sure it was hate between them...

“What do you mean, not me? You hate me. Why does it matter what I think?”
“Who says that I hate you?” He was looking at me intently. Like he wanted to say something else. But instead of saying something he closed the distance between us and in one strong, single-minded move, he kissed me. It wasn’t tentative or sweet like with Bale. It didn’t come out of a history of love and longing. It came out of a week of friction and misunderstanding and frustration that brought us to this moment. His lips were inhaling and hungry and challenging, I and I felt myself responding.
