Review ~ Before We Fall by Courtney Cole

Before We Fall (Beautifully Broken, #3)Title: Before We Fall
Author: Courtney Cole
Series: Beautifully Broken #3
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: December 3rd 2013

Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black...

For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He's a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn't care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it's an absence of moments. She's like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other... to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.

Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated... they've learned a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, before we fall... we fly.
I thought I loved the first two books in this amazing series, but Courtney Cole has blown me away with Before We Fall. We get to see into a character who has shaped his life because of a tragedy that broke his heart six years ago and he delves into some dark places. It is such a complicated and intense journey and I wanted to see how he could get out of that dark place.

Jacey is coming to terms with her demons, some of which occurred in the previous books and she is trying to get her life back on track. She is currently working in a less than ideal job, but she needs to earn fast money. It is at this job where she first the famous Dominic. He is a famous actor but it soon becomes apparent that there is more to him than what he portrays. He is closed off, doesn’t trust anyone and rarely lets anyone close.

It was good to see Jacey take back control of her life. She is determined not to fall for the wrong guy again because it just leads to her being broken again. I liked seeing her step up as I was a little frustrated with her myself in the last book. She is a strong character, she doesn’t back down and will throw herself in the path of danger to save those she cares about. She has so much spirit and she used it to help Dominic.

Dominic is a complex character. He is drop dead gorgeous and the world knows it. However, there is more to him than that and I didn’t find out the depth of his hurt until late in the book and when I did, I swear my heart broke for him. I haven’t had to deal with that type of situation myself, but it still breaks my heart. Dominic has years worth of guilt built up that has turned him into the fractured man that he is today. Due to great publicists, the world can’t see it, but somehow Jacey does and she manages to get under his defences.

Courtney Cole certainly knows how to weave real life situations into beautiful stories. There is so much emotion and heartbreak throughout this story that I wasn’t sure if these characters will make it. When all the truths were revealed I was hoping these characters were able to find their HEA. We slightly dip into some dark sexual escapades, but it was all part of Dominic’s character and it fitted perfectly with the man Courtney created. I loved this story so much and in the end it brought tears to my eyes… that epilogue… beautiful but heartbreaking… If you have not read any of Courtney’s books, you need to ASAP!!

I received a copy of this book from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
