Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

I have read and enjoyed Becca’s Hush, Hush series, so when I saw this romantic thriller, I just had to get it! I wanted to see if she could sweep me away in a new world and keep me on the edge of my seat. I can tell you she did a fantastic job with Black Ice and I was certainly glued to the pages (My hubby even got annoyed because I was still reading at 11.45 at night… I just had to get to the end!!).

Britt has planned a camping/hiking trip with her best friend Korbie since her boyfriend, Calvin, split up with her eight months ago. Calvin is Korbie’s older brother, and Britt has crushed on him since they were kids, so she thought that this would bring them back together. The girls become lost when the blizzard comes in and land on the doorstep of a cabin with two guys they don’t know.

Britt is a character you would want to be your friend. She doesn’t just think about herself and made plans to protect her friend. On this journey she showed courage and stood up when needed. She realised that she isn’t a scared girl and doesn’t need to rely on a guy. Seeing her grow throughout this book was amazing, especially when she pushed herself.

When I was finished this book, I sat back and contemplated about it. I thought that it was very well done and felt that I picked up the clues along the way. I had my suspects early on and even by the time I figured it out, it didn’t take anything away from me enjoying the book. Becca Fitzpatrick blew me away with this story, with well fleshed out characters and a gripping plot. If you enjoy Beccas books or a good suspenseful read you should give this standalone a try!
