Heartbeat is a quick read that I was able to get through in a few hours. It is an emotional journey and a bit sad as we see two lonely characters struggle in their current lives. It is a sweet but intense book and when you get to the end you will be let wanting more.
Katie lives at home with her father and her loving Grandmother. She is fresh out of school and hasn't been able to hold a job, but not from lack of trying. She doesn’t have any real friends, only her cousin Jennifer and her Grandmother. She hasn’t had a relationship with a guy before and is not sure what to do or act around them when she sees someone she likes. I really liked Katie; she is a sweet and shy girl who is doing her best in life. She cares very deeply for her Grandmother as she has been the one constant in her life that she has always been able to rely on.
Adam is training to be a Paramedic after leaving the coast because of a bad break up. He has sworn off girls and lives the life of a hermit; he goes to school, work, sleep then the routine begins again. He doesn’t have any friends outside of work or school as he wants to focus on his career. He has a good heart too. He wasn’t the playboy type of guy and likes to be responsible. He is taking his new life very seriously, and if he gets a second chance, he is going to take it!
I was drawn into the beginning of the story, and how the characters initially met. They can see that there is a spark between them but they are both hesitant and don’t know how to proceed. After that the storyline slowed up a bit as we follow each character as they go about their lives and the difficulties they have had to face. Don’t get me wrong, it does set the story up a bit, but I was hoping for more to happen. The second half of the book is much better as the drama unfolds and the swooning begins. Both characters have hurdles to get over if they want to be together and their lives don’t run as smoothly as they hoped.
Overall I really enjoyed the book. Being able to see both POV’s helped build up the story and I like the way Faith put it all together. And that ending …… I did not see that coming!! I kept trying to flip pages to continue the story, but there was nothing!! Argh!! It bought a tear to my eye and I want to know what is going to happen now!! I have found a new fun author and I am looking forward to reading Come What May…
I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Great review Naomi, I'm gonna add this to my TBR :) I love stories where trust is hard to find, it makes everything sweater when things work out (if they do) in the end.
