Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing...

Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.

It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.

To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead…
I read the first two books in the Dory series before I started my blog, so I don’t have any reviews for them, but both this series and the Cassandra Palmer series are favourites of mine. The Cassandra Palmer series is the original series and the Dory one is a spinoff from it. They are both set in the same world with a few characters that overlap in both series. The world building is incredible, with so many paranormal and magical creatures throughout and sometimes your mind is spinning with all the craziness that occurs. It is nonstop action from cover to cover and I love being drawn into the world Karen creates and swept away with the plot!

Dory is one crazy badass woman!! I love her and her witty remarks! She never backs down and is stubborn enough to see things through to the very end! But being a Dhampir is a bit of a challenge as she has no real place in the Vampire world. But being the daughter of Mircea, one of the senate members does give her a foot in the door.

Dory deals with so much in this journey, she always seems to have someone trying to kill her, whether it is on a mission, going to the shops to buy condoms (Funniest shopping trip ever – you just have to read it!) or just trying to get home. She is also trying to figure out the puzzle which is Louis-Cesare, why that Vampire wants her so badly and that her lady parts always react to him!! But throughout everything, she is trying to uncover who is behind the smuggling ring and the deaths of 11 master vampires. And that is where the fun begins!

There were some characters I loved seeing again; Louis-Cesare for sure!! Marlowe, Ray because he is just hilarious and always works his way into Dory’s life! Radu as well, being the good uncle. And then there is Mircea… and one flashback featuring him and Dory had me understanding him and his feelings for Dory. This particular scene opened Dory’s eyes for the better. There was even a cameo from Cassandra… and boy was that funny!

I love Karen Chances writing and the way she pulls me into the world she creates. There are so many characters, and just imagining all the creatures is fascinating! I enjoyed how the plot unfolded and how everything connects together until we get to that final show down!! Hmmm… Louis-Cesare, he is one persistent guy, and one scene in particular left me wanting more of him!! Oh, and that epilogue!!!! It was so good! Neither Dory nor I saw that coming!! I can keep telling you bits I love, but you should just try the series for yourself! I’m off to dive into the 6th Cassie book, Tempting the Stars… So excited!

Check out a teaser from the Shopping Trip I mentioned above in todays Teaser Tuesday!
