Everyone wants justice.
That’s what Assistant DA, Lulu Lightly, tells me.
“Cathedral City needs you to set things right,” she says. “To rid this place of corruption once and for all.”
I’d like to rid Lulu Lightly of her clothes. And maybe her moral superiority. But mostly her clothes.
“I want you to fight the good fight with me,” she says.
Hell, yeah. I’m always up for a fight.
“We should stand up and be the voice of the people,” she says.
Sure, I hear voices. Sometimes I even listen to them.
“Figure out what’s good for the City and put it first,” she says.
Oh, honey… what’s good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I’m Case Reider—insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone.
Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think.
I’m not the justice you’re looking for, Lulu Lightly.
I’m still the same villain you left behind.
Only now… there’s something very, very wrong with me.

I was first introduced to this world early back in 2015 and I instantly fell in love with the exciting world and unique characters. Even though it has been a while in between books, I felt that I didn't get lost and was swept away in this fantastic world once again.

The characters in this series are well developed and bring their own individuality to the story, despite being connected most of their lives. Case has lived a difficult life, and will be forever linked to Lincoln and Thomas because of their shared pasts, and the plans they have for the future. Lulu is new to town and has an open mind being the new assistant DA.

Case and Lulu were fantastic together and I liked that they had history. They were forced together by their parents, when Lulu needed a partner for her Debutante Ball. They built a strong friendship and were attracted to one another. Even after all the time they'd spent apart I could see that their connection was still there. They were hot together and I could see that Lulu tried to have an open mind about Case and his life.

This was an exciting and action packed ride that I couldn't get enough of. The storyline had me thinking and I guessed how things were happening early on. But of course that's not the end of it, there's always the brains of the operation that needs to be brought down. J.A. Huss has shown me once again why she's the master of keeping me on edge and making me crave more of her work. I cannot wait to get the next book to see where things head next.

*** Swoon Thursday was first bought to us by YA Bound. Since they are no longer with us, and with permission from Trisha Wolfe, I have decided that those of us that love to swoon need a central meet up point.  So here it is ladies! I have a link up for everyone at the bottom of the post you can add your swoons to, and I’ll set it up every week! So tell all other swooners out there to come on over, link up so we can visit each other! ***

I loved this reunion between Lulu and Case...

“You’re back now?” he asks. Eyes almost pleading.
“I’m back now.”
He sits on the stone bench and it’s like… it’s like we’re kids again. At the end of that one night at the ball. But this time we are deliberate. Older. More experienced, but also more cynical.
My eyes never leave his as I hike up my dress, straddle his thighs, and nestle myself into his lap.
He hugs me then. Wraps his arms completely around my waist, pulling me in so close, I almost gasp for air.
