Review/Giveaway ~ Alex by Sawyer Bennett

Title: Alex
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Series: Cold Fury Hockey #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: October 14th 2014

USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

I have read a few books in Sawyer Bennett’s Off series and really enjoyed them, so when I saw Alex, I read the blurb and had to learn more about the brooding male lead. Alex was a fantastic read as we see both main characters change for the better.

Alex hasn’t been enjoying hockey for some time. He’s mean to his team mates and really doesn’t give a damn about the crowd, where they have dubbed him the MVP (Most Valuable Prick). His club have decided to take action and have forced him to work with a local Drug Crisis Centre to start up a new campaign. What he didn’t plan on was working with a girl who would change life as he knew it.

I liked seeing Alex and Sutton together. The more time that Alex spent with Sutton, caused a shift in his personality and he began to enjoy his life again. He still had his demons to deal with but he was a better person to be around and a lot of people noticed. Sutton is just sweet and sees the best in people. She has issues in her past too, but she has managed to move on and now helps others. When Alex and Sutton were together, you could see they belonged with one another and I was hoping no major issues came up.

But there is always a hurdle thrown in to make things difficult and I just wanted to shake both characters! A little doubt and they were willing to walk away and not fight for one another. Thank goodness that Alex has finally made friends, or I’d be very cranky!! Lol In the end, I think that Sawyer wrapped this story up nicely and I liked how it turned out. I enjoyed the sports aspect… Ice Hockey is not big in Aus, but I love watching and reading about it. The world was realistic and the characters dealt with issues that affect many people today. I am definitely looking forward to more in this series… I hope it is Garrett next! He was a hoot!

She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Loved your review darling, as usual, you always write just enough to intrigue us lol. This series looks really fun to read. I haven't read a book about a guy having such a bad attitude, it's a little different and I think it's working in it's favor.
