Tom Badgerlock has been living peaceably in the manor house at Withywoods with his beloved wife Molly these many years, the estate a reward to his family for loyal service to the crown.
But behind the facade of respectable middle-age lies a turbulent and violent past. For Tom Badgerlock is actually FitzChivalry Farseer, bastard scion of the Farseer line, convicted user of Beast-magic, and assassin. A man who has risked much for his king and lost more…
On a shelf in his den sits a triptych carved in memory stone of a man, a wolf and a fool. Once, these three were inseparable friends: Fitz, Nighteyes and the Fool. But one is long dead, and one long-missing.
Then one Winterfest night a messenger arrives to seek out Fitz, but mysteriously disappears, leaving nothing but a blood-trail. What was the message? Who was the sender? And what has happened to the messenger?
Suddenly Fitz's violent old life erupts into the peace of his new world, and nothing and no one is safe.

My sister introduced me to the Farseer series a few years ago. Since that first introduction, I have devoured all the books that related to this world because I just loved the characters that Robin Hobb created and the story lines were always captivating. So when I saw that Fool’s Assassin was coming out, I knew I had to get it and immerse myself back into the world… and what a ride it was! I got to see not only Fitz, but a lot of other favourite characters as well. There were ups and downs, and plenty of twists to keep your head spinning! It was an amazing journey that had me on the edge of my seat at the end!
Fitz is still as reserved as ever; I was able to see how he has developed over the years and how he spends his time with Molly. Neither of them are spring chickens anymore, so it was interesting to see what they were like together. Their journey is not an easy one, but they stick together through the hard times. But their lives unexpectedly take a turn that I did not see coming and it was sweet to see them adjust to their new lives.
I liked getting glimpses of other characters that I have come to love throughout the series too. King Dutiful, Queen Kettricken, Chade and Nettle. They have touched me in some way throughout this series, so it was great to see them again. The introduction of the new character really had me excited! I will not give anything away, but I loved getting their POV!
Most of this book just coasts along, but I enjoyed catching up on the years I have missed and this book spanned over many years itself. In no way did I feel bored while reading it either, I just absorbed all the details and was eagerly flicking the pages. The last part of the book is when the action really picked up, and in the end I was left with my jaw dropping and wanting the next book immediately! It has definitely set up the series for some exciting times ahead. Robin Hobb has shown me that although I thought the series was over, she is that talented that she can bring us a whole new story to this amazing world! It will be 12 months until Fool’s Quest gets here

Robin Hobb is one of the world's finest writers of epic fiction. She was born in California in 1952 but raised in Alaska, where she learned how to raise a wolf cub, to skin a moose and to survive in the wilderness. When she married a fisherman who fished herring and the Kodiak salmon-run for half the year, these skills would stand her in good stead.
She raised her family, ran a smallholding, delivered post to her remote community, all at the same time as writing stories and novels. She succeeded on all fronts, raising four children and becoming an internationally best-selling writer. She lives in Tacoma, Washington State.
