Since her sister's death, twenty-year-old Paisley Donovan, who shares her sister’s heart condition, is treated like delicate glass by her parents. But nothing will stop her from completing her Bucket List—even if it kills her. And it almost does, until Jagger Bateman pulls her from the ocean and breathes more than air into her lungs—he sets her soul on fire.

Jagger is enrolled in the country's toughest flight school. He's wickedly hot, reckless, and perfect for a girl looking to live life to the fullest. Except that Paisley is the commanding general's daughter, and her boyfriend is Jagger's biggest rival. Now Paisley must decide just how much to risk for a guy who makes her heart pound a little too hard.

They're flying through dangerous territory—and one wrong move could make them crash and burn...

I’m not sure what I really expected going into Eyes Turned Skyward, but I was not prepared from the barrage of emotion that I did get! This was quite the journey, of a girl who wants to live and of a guy who is tied to his past. Once their paths crossed, they both realised what was missing from their lives and each time they interacted, they were drawn closer together.

Paisley was dealt a really crappy hand, and her situation touched me straight up. She has constantly lived in the shadow of her sister and just wants to live for herself… hence the bucket list. Paisley’s family and even Will are very important people in her life, but they don’t seem to be able to see her past her issue. When she spends time with Jagger, he treats her as a normal person, and she loves that freeing feeling.

Jagger… holy hotness! He can rescue me any day! He’s that sweet, carefree kind of guy who has created his own path in life. He appears to be a kind of badboy, but his past has shaped him into the man he’s become. He is smitten by Paisley from the beginning and does his best to keep his feelings in check, but the more time he spends with her, the harder it becomes.

The journey that Paisley and Jagger went through was remarkable. They began as friends, because that is all Paisley had to offer. I think that the strength from that relationship shaped them into the people they become. I loved the flight school aspect of the story, and even though I know nothing about it, I felt comfortable reading about it. I thought that this was a beautiful read and I’ll be sure to pick up another book by Rebecca Yarros in the future!!

  11. I've been seeing Yarros' name around lately, Naomi, and thought about one-clicking this one. I just checked - I never did. But ooooh, I so want to. Oh, it's on my spreadsheet of books I've refrained (so far) from one-clicking. Anyway, this sounds like my kind of read. The emotional element, of course, draws me. But I'm also drawn to their journey...I want to know their story. Thanks for sharing a fabulous review, girl. It is 'end of month' technically, so I may use a tiny bit of my budget on this one. :)
