This is the second series of Jani Kay’s that I have started, and I was really looking forward to this one. Lost in France is set in Paris and the main character is an Australian girl, fleeing her life to start over. It had a lot of potential but in the end it fell a little short for me… but I will continue to read it to see if the series picks up.
Rebecca’s high school boyfriend broke her heart and she decided a new challenge would be easier than working through her issues. She accepts a new job and is relocated, and on the way joins the mile high club with the sexy Frenchman, Alain. They grow close and she experiences a whole new set of firsts with the mysterious hottie, before meeting her boss, Maxwell. He is gorgeous too and there is a pull between them that Rebecca doesn’t understand. He is arrogant and pushes her buttons like no-one else.
As you can tell there appears to be a bit of a love triangle thing happening, but it doesn’t really come into effect in this book. There is plenty of attraction between Rebecca and the men in her life, but she really has eyes for only one of them. I thought I made up my mind about all the characters early in the book, but a few things happened which made me change my mind. Rebecca, who is 29 years old, seems quite naïve for someone of her age and is probably too trusting and quick to make decisions without thinking them through properly.
When I was at about 90% of the story, I thought things were on track for Rebecca… but then one of the characters confused me to no end, doing a complete back flip and it really pissed me off!! I couldn’t believe that he would do that and I was quite shocked. It really unsettled Rebecca and she was right back at square one. I will read the next book to see if things pick up for her and to see whether or not she can find the happiness she deserves!
