Review ~ Carter Reed by Tijan

Carter ReedTitle: Carter Reed
Author: Tijan
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: September 28th 2013

Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place.
This book had my blood pumping, as the main character in this book is constantly living in fear and looking over her shoulders. It was an exciting read, where we delve into the lives of people who are either hunted or involved with the Mafia families.

If you read the blurb, you can see what choice Emma made and has to turn to Carter Reed to help her. The initial stages of the book are a bit of a blur for Emma as she is in shock at what she has done. She has lived in fear for a long time and we soon find out why. When Carter Reed comes into the story, you can see the type of person that he is now is a lot different to the one she knew years ago. He is cold, guarded and you have to work damn hard to get him to trust you.

Emma was a bit frustrating at times, but as a whole I liked her. She will do anything for the people she cares about, as there are very few people that she can call friends. She has a good heart, but sometimes I wanted to shake her because she either thought things over too much or not enough, and often it got her in trouble. Carter Reed… well, he is certainly cold, feared and deadly… but he is also sex on a stick!! Lol He is very confidant and he is a weapon himself. Even though he was hard on Emma to begin with, I could see that he was doing it to get her to open up and make the decisions for herself. As the story unfolded, you could see how much he cared for her (and for how long) and what he has done to keep her safe.

The author has done a good job getting this story across. I enjoyed it from cover to cover, and the few issues I had didn’t really affect the story at all. Being in this world was intense… and I felt that I had to look over my shoulder at times too… Can you trust everyone around you? Carter Reed may have been deadly to begin with, but even more so now Emma is close to him. The chemistry between these two is a bit intense, but you can see that once they get it on, it’s going to explode for them both!! I really hope to see more in this series… When do the Mafia ever keep their word?
