He’s the player of all players…
Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

Slow Play is the third book in The Rules series, and it features Tristan, the broody one of the trio, who is determined to stick to the one and done rule that the three guys were adapting in college. Except now, his cousin Shep and friend Gabe are both in stable relationships and he has been left on his own.

The girl who makes Tristan question everything he believes in is Alexandra. She’s a nice girl, who has struggled since her parents are out of the picture. I learned her story in bits and pieces, and I was proud of how she stepped up for herself and was building her own life. I liked seeing her banter with Tristan and through her eyes I could see a better Tristan.

Tristan I found really hard to like! Throughout most of the book he is arrogant and bitter, because he just doesn’t see why his friends or even why he would need a stable woman in his life. He resents Shep and Gabe for changing their lives around and is adamant that it will never happen to him. But I could see him change, the more time he was around Alexandra.

Like I said, I found it hard to actually like Tristan. He’s upfront about everything and never holds back. A lot of the time I thought he was cocky and mean, but somehow, Alex saw past it all to the nice guy underneath. His family’s history kind of shaped him into the man he now is and in the end I could see why he was like that. I’m glad that he found Alex and she was able to help him become a better person. When they were watching Sex in the City episodes together became a turning point for me, because it was not something he would do for anyone. So by the end of the book I actually liked him.

I liked seeing the other couples throughout the book, as all their lives cross paths at some point or another. I also liked the small glimpses of their casino too, but it didn’t play much of a role in this story either. I was surprised by the twist, I didn’t see that at all and I was happy with how it all tied up. Who thought Tristan would do a complete 180 like that!! I enjoyed Monica Murphy’s writing, the alternating perspectives, and I think that she stayed true to his character, and portrayed Tristan as the same guy that I met in the first two books. I’m looking forward to devouring more of Monica’s books in the future!
