Back in December 2012, I read the second book in the Veer series, and now’s the time to go back and read the first book, Derailed. I’ve forgotten how easy Alyssa Rose Ivy pulls you into her writing and I was quickly swept away in her world.
As you can tell in the blurb, this is a second chance at love for Molly and Ben. Molly moved home after the death of her fiancé, unsure of her future and what she wants from life. Molly feels down because of what she’s been through, and doesn’t think she deserves happiness. It was sad to see her struggle with her emotions and belief that the men in her life always leave her. Molly was hesitant to see Ben again… the last time they spoke to one another their relationship ended abruptly. Molly was going through a hard time and Ben wasn’t there to support her. She’s feeling lost at the moment and doesn’t want to fall back to old habits.
Ben was upfront with what he wanted, and I could see how much he still loved Molly. He quickly eased himself back into her life, and I felt that she let him do so too easily. Don’t get me wrong, I thought he was a good guy, but Molly’s inner dialogue was all about distance, but then she’d say and do the opposite. I loved seeing Ben in his band, but when he performed a particular song it kind of broke my heart. Molly found it hard to handle, and then asked him to never sing it again… that actually made me a little mad with Molly… it was something Ben wrote and despite its connection to Molly, she needed to accept it.
There was a bit of a love triangle in this book, but it was mostly one sided. I liked Gavin, he had a good heart but wasn’t a good match for Molly. I liked Kelly and her fiancé Tom; Kelly is a good friend for Molly and tries hard to get her out of her slump and doing normal things again.
I thought this was a nice read and was happy that Ben and Molly got their HEA, despite Molly’s reluctance. I think that Alyssa Rose Ivy has a way of building these incredibly emotional worlds that keep you hooked until that final page. I must get the third book, to see who will settle Jake down!
This is how sweet Ben is... Sigh!
“I never believed there was anyone else out there. I knew completely that no one else would ever make me feel the way you did. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, and from the day I realized I loved you, I never even considered a future without you.”
