RELEASE DAY REVIEW ~ Pocketful of Sand by M. Leighton

Pocketful of SandTitle: Pocketful of Sand

“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer.

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all.

People, you all need to get this book! You get to choose your own ending and I tell you, once you start you do not want it to end! It was a beautiful read and I loved the growing romance, only for my heart to break, rebuild and then completely shatter!! Then… you pick the direction on the story! It was a pretty amazing ride, I tell you!

Eden and her daughter Emmy are new to town and I loved getting to know them. Eden is a great mother and Emmy is her number one priority, and until she met Cole, she had no interest in starting a relationship. It was sweet to see her feelings grow and how he awoke sensations in her that she never thought she’d feel.

Cole, just wow! He is a quiet, broody type of man, but after learning his story, it was understandable. He struggled so much through this book, but he really was a kind and caring guy. He began to open up more and Eden tried to help him through the turmoil he was facing. I loved seeing him around Emmy, they were always swoon-worthy moments!!

Eden and Cole had a connection immediately and it was sweet to see it grow. They both tried to deny their feelings, because they honestly didn’t need complications in their lives. So when they do go on, it was explosive and I was fist pumping the air because they both deserved to be happy.

M. Leighton is one of my all time favourite authors and she sucked me into her world once again! In Pocketful of Sand she pulled so many emotions from me, brought tears to my eyes and I felt that I knew these characters personally. It was simply a remarkable read and I loved every moment of reading this book. If you are like me, you will read both endings to the story, and then you’ll be hanging for the next book in the series. There is an interesting twist in one of them and I want Handful of Tears now.

Author PhotoNew York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, M. Leighton finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days M. Leighton enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you'll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren't roaming in that direction, she'll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

A note from M. Leighton: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I'm convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.

  1. Aww, this does sound sweet. I love when the relationship builds gradually - it's always easier to get lost into the story this way. I haven't read this author, but since you recommend it so warmly... My goodness, I'm going to go bankrupt! :)

  10. Okay I am confused or I just think too much! If you get to pick the ending, how is the sequel written-is there two different sequels depending on what ending you picked? I must admit you have me interested!

  11. You pick a happily ever after ending, or it builds into a continuation of the story. So it's up to you whether you want to finish the story with one book, or continue on with the other one.

  13. So, it's like a Choose Your Own Adventure? (I just went down and read your comment back to Lorna, so I think I get it - how strange!!) I am definitely intrigued and need to check this one out!

  15. Yeah, kind of is. The second ending has people a bit confused, but I am looking forward to where it will go now.
