Ellie Cahill is poised to coin the term “sorbet sex” with her charming twist on the age-old ‘friends-with-benefits’ story.
Dating can be fun, but it can leave a nasty taste in your mouth. For Joss, ever since her longtime boyfriend cheated on her, she doesn’t want her last memory of a guy to be that jerk. Enter her college friend, Matt. They come up with a theory: after a bad break-up, a person needs to cleanse the palate with a little sorbet sex. Lovers for a night, but always back to being friends in the morning. The two can handle it because they have a contract: rules they wrote, rules they follow and rules they can sometimes bend. The arrangement works: everyone needs a little sorbet now and again … until it starts to be the only thing you want. And then Joss breaks the one rule they never wrote down: don’t fall in love.

After reading Christy's review over at Christy's Love of Books, I just had to get When Joss Met Matt and read it for myself. And I am so glad I did because I loved this book! It had all the elements I love in a NA book, two witty characters, college life and so many humorous situations that I often giggled out loud. But it was the friendship that slowly developed into love that I enjoyed the most, spanning over seven years.
We started with Joss getting a message from Matt wanting to meet up, and I was soon told the elements of a sorbet relationship! It was such a quirky thing to do, but what better way to get over your last sexual encounter by having one night with someone you trust. So, rules were made, and each time either one of them called on the other it became more complicated! It was hilarious at times I tell you.
Anyway, even though we began in the present, the book jumps into the past and I began to know both Joss and Matt from when they first met at the start of college. I saw each of their relationships grow, while they dated and carried on their lives. Their friendship becomes stronger over the years and the lines are often blurred.
I loved both of the characters. In the beginning Joss was a little naïve, bit she began to open up, relax her walls and became her own person. Matt is a cute guy, with a killer smile, who knows how to kiss! He finds it hard to express his feelings and is a really nice guy.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I enjoyed the whole journey. The ups and downs, the tension between the characters, and that ending left me satisfied for them all. I would like to see more of Joss and Matt because their life together would be amusing! This book left me feeling good and wishing that I had the chance to live the whole college life. If you are after an entertaining New Adult read, definitely pick this one up and keep your eye out for future books from this author!!
