Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

It was exciting to leap back into band life and the lives of the men from Stage Dive. I loved meeting Mal in the first book of this series, Lick, so I was super excited to see that he would be featured in this book! Like the first book, this book is told from the female characters perspective and it was fun to see Mal from her eyes!

Anne finds herself in a difficult situation in the beginning and gets dragged out, by her neighbours, to a party by hosted by David and Ev (from the first book). Anne takes a phone call from her friend and boss Reece, explaining her situation, not knowing that someone is listening. She soon meets Mal, her high school band crush, and he riles her up! I was in stitches, as he dissected her and her situation apart! And further interaction between these two throughout the night was amusing too. Soon Anne’s life is thrown upside-down when Mal forces himself into her life, and into a ‘fake’ relationship.

Anne's life wasn't always peachy, but she did the best she could. She supported her sister through everything and has been trying hard to make a life for herself. She has crushed on her boss for the past two years, but advice from a stranger, opened her eyes. She grows a lot through this book and it was nice to see that change in her personality. She is used as a doormat for a lot of people and when she decides to take back control of her life, she leaves a few people behind.

Mal is just hilarious! I liked him in Lick, but he was better in his own book! Most of the time he uses his wit to express himself, but he has demons that he's not willing to put out there. He is fun, caring and a little manic. But watching him with Anne was sweet. I think early in the story I could see his plans. It just took time for Anne to catch on.

Kylie Scott has a writing style that I enjoy. She knows how to mix the right amount of snark, romance and intriguing storyline to keep me fixed to the book! Although this was a pretty amusing story, there was a serious storyline hiding in the shadows that wasn’t revealed until later in the book. It bought the characters together and really broke my heart. As usual, I was left wanting more and cannot wait to read Jimmy’s book, Lead, next!!
