As the Chicagoland Vampires series continues, Merit and Ethan find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where winning may require the ultimate sacrifice...

A vampire’s grudges don’t stay dead long...

Merit is one of Chicago's most skilled vampire warriors; these days, she doesn't scare easily. But she and Master vampire Ethan have made a new and powerful enemy, and he won't give up until he owns the Windy City.

With his last plan thwarted, he's more determined than ever to watch Cadogan burn. Ethan has put the House's vampires on high alert, but their enemy will stop at nothing, including pitting vampire against vampire...

In this deadly game of cat-and-mouse, the stakes are life or death—and winning might mean sacrificing everything...

The Chicagoland Vampires series is still going strong with the release of the twelfth book in the series. I really found this particular book to be a bit of a test between Merit and Ethan, as they both make some hasty decisions that impact the trust they have in their relationship.

Midnight Marked opens our eyes to the world of alchemy and what it can do to all supernatural’s. The death of a shifter, by the hands of a vampire, is what brought the problem to light when Mallory felt the magic and Ethan, Merit, Catcher and Mallory decide to investigate it.

There was a little trouble in paradise for Ethan and Merit. They love one another unconditionally but a couple of careless decisions put strain on their relationship. There were some sweet moments between them and an epic fight scene in the training room, but neither of them backed down in regards to the issue. Both of them were focused on the problem at hand and in the end it hit very close to home for Merit.

I enjoyed seeing the whole crew work together to solve the riddle of the alchemy; not only the Cadogan Vamp’s, but the Ombuddies and Mallory too. There was quite a crew and each of them had a role to play in regards to solving the puzzle. It was interesting to see the relationship change with Merit and her father, too, as it seems to be taking a better turn. An alliance with another supernatural group was tested, though; information was withheld from one another and lives were put at risk in regards to this action.

This was probably one of my favourite stories of the series! There was really only one main storyline in this book, but there were a few other things that happened that made it way more enjoyable! I still love Ethan and Merit together, and the guy sure knows how to catch a girl off guard! It was another action packed instalment and I am excited to get my hands on more!

Love Merit... she finds humour in everything that she does!!

“Yeah, saving a few thousand people can do that. That was a pretty good Moses routine—you know, parting the waters and all.”
He looked up at me, a half smile on his face. “Are you making a joke at a time like this?”
“Catcher Bell,” I said, offering a hand and helping him climb to his feet, “if you can’t make a joke at a time like this, what’s the point of living?”
