Nina Kennedy was alive…but not living…until she met him.

Planes, trains, heights…you name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest person she’s ever met.

Behind Jake Green’s rough exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t expecting to fall hard for her in the process.

What Nina doesn’t realize, is that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will their love survive it?

Told in two parts from both Nina and Jake’s points of view, Jake Undone is a standalone story and a companion to the novel, Gemini.

Sigh… I loved this book! It was a beautiful read about two characters that were a little lost and didn’t realise that they needed someone special in their lives.

Nina moved to New York to study to become a nurse. She found a place to live with her brother’s best friend, Ryan, who is like family to her, and his two roommates, Jake and Tarah. The chemistry between Jake and Nina builds slowly throughout the book as Jake tutors Nina in her math and even helps her with her fears.

Jake may seem like a bad boy, with the tatts, piercings and sexy body, but he is an engineer, with a kind soul. The more I got to know him, the more I loved him! He goes out of his way to help Nina, but I could see he was keeping some secrets. When I found out what those were, it showed how good of a person he was and boy did I swoon over him!!

I loved how the relationship built between these two, they formed a comfortable friendship at first, and the romance and passion came later. There were a few hurdles along the way, and they both struggled and found it hard to fight for one another.

This is the second book of Penelope Ward’s that I have read and I love how she can sweep me away in her worlds. Her characters seem like real people and deal with issues that affect people every day. I love how I got a good glimpse into the future for Jake and Nina too, and saw again that things are not always perfect. It was a fitting wrap up to Jake Undone!!

“You’re the first thing I think about in the morning and the last thing I think about at night. And then, you invade my thoughts and dreams in between. I have tried so hard to stop these feelings. I have put up as many barriers as I could stand to, but they are crumbling down. I can’t do it anymore.” He placed his mouth on me whispering into my neck huskily, “I can’t do it anymore…I can’t do it anymore…I can’t do it anymore.” His hands moved slowly down my sides gripping my hips, and his lips moved over mine when he said, “I’ve come undone.”

  1. Geez, now I really want to read this, Naomi. I love a man who's all bad boy on the surface but really a softie on the inside. :) I haven't read anything from Ward BUT I do believe I might own Stepbrother Dearest. I'll have to see which of her books I have - I'll be creating a lineup to read while I'm on vacation in June. I'll try to make sure she's on the list. ;)
