Sexy, tattooed and inevitably dangerous. Memphis is all that and more…
I live for the pain; it’s what drives me to keep moving. But there comes a time when one has to push the demons aside in order to survive.
I thought I buried them deep. I thought I was ready to finally live. Until… my brother, Alex; he throws me into the fire—right into the place I could never control myself, the one place I never want to be again.
When I put my hands on people, they get hurt. Things happen that bring me back to that night. The one that will forever torment me.
I’m doing fine, keeping to myself in order to ensure no one gets hurt by me. Then along comes Lyric, and all I want to do is touch her, to put my hands in places that I know will only lead to her being crushed by me.
She’s the rush that I crave. The darkest of poison running through my veins, killing me bit by bit; like a drug I can’t get enough of even though I’m almost down to my last breath.
And being around her only hurts more, but what she doesn’t understand is that I welcome the pain; I get off on it, which in the end leaves me with the hardest decision of my life—one that might get us all killed…

The Walk of Shame series was my first introduction to Victoria Ashley’s writing, and I haven’t looked back since! I love the books from that series that I decided to dive into the Pain series too, and boy, was it worth it!
Memphis and Lyric both have difficult pasts. They cross paths because of Memphis moving home and Lyric lives in the guest house next door. There is a slight spark when their eyes meet and they are curious about one another. But Memphis has one goal in mind which is to find his brother and get out of town. Finding Alex wasn’t as easy as Memphis hoped, so he saw Lyric more often and their connection grew.
Memphis is such an incredible guy! He is unbelievably sexy, broody and intimidating, but underneath, he has a heart of gold and will do ANYTHING for those he holds close to his heart, which are very few people. As his story unravelled, my feelings for him grew and I just wanted it all to work out for him.
Lyric certainly is Memphis’s match!! She speaks what she means, doesn’t like to be told what to do and goes after what she wants. I loved how she unsettled Memphis right from the start and when he asked her to do something she would do the opposite! She was certainly my kind of girl. She is creative too, loves her photography and some of the photos she takes, whoa, wish I was there! Memphis… sigh!
Victoria Ashley has blown me away again with her incredible world building and well fleshed out characters. I built a connection to them immediately and they are both passionate about those they consider family. The alternating POV’s were done well and I was glad to get both sides of their stories, it made the whole story that much better. I hope that Alex’s book gets here soon, because I want to see more of that cheeky guy!!
“I’m not cold. I actually prefer the cooler weather over it being hot. You could have kept your jacket on.”
He turns to me and growls, his eyes staying on mine. “Your nipples are hard, Lyric, so either you’re cold or turned on.” He reaches for the garage door and opens it. “Or both. Either way, you need to cover up . . . for both of our sakes. Trust me.”Kindle Page 58“You’re such an ass,” I growl, causing his piercing eyes to meet mine. One look into those eyes and I fucking melt. He owns me with just one look. That’s a huge problem for me.“You’re so fucking beautiful. Do you know that?” He grips the back of my hair and hovers his lips above mine when I don’t answer. “I’m fighting so damn hard not to just fuck you where you stand, Lyric. I can’t control myself around you. Do you get that?”“Then don’t,” I whisper. With a growl, his lips take control of mine possessively, owning me.Kindle Page 100Hosted by Anna @ Herding Cats & Burning Soup
Victoria Ashley grew up in Rockford, IL and has had a passion for reading for as long as she can remember. After finding a reading app where it allowed readers to upload their own stories, she gave it a shot and writing became her passion.
She lives for a good romance book with tattooed bad boys that are just highly misunderstood and is not afraid to be caught crying during a good read. When she’s not reading or writing about bad boys, you can find her watching her favorites shows such as Sons Of Anarchy, Dexter and True Blood.
She is the author of Wake Up Call, This Regret, Slade, Hemy, and Get Off on the Pain. Victoria is currently working on more releases for 2015.

How about that cover? Phew, I need some air, girlie :) Sounds like a complex relationship between well-written characters, which is really the best you can expect from an author. And I love their names, too - Memphis and Lyric - so great!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I recommended Slade to you! I haven't read this one yet but I know it's going to be awesome. I love her! I'm reading Thrust by her, it just came out and of course I'm freaking late on my review. Thrust is really good, I hope you have it in your tbr. I love your quotes, Victoria to me is very well known for her steamy books & quotes. The queen of steamy I tell you! Thrust is different though a little slower & different from her previous books but equally as good.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you love her books!
