The Walk of Shame series was my first introduction to Victoria Ashley’s writing, and I haven’t looked back since! I love the books from that series that I decided to dive into the Pain series too, and boy, was it worth it!

Memphis and Lyric both have difficult pasts. They cross paths because of Memphis moving home and Lyric lives in the guest house next door. There is a slight spark when their eyes meet and they are curious about one another. But Memphis has one goal in mind which is to find his brother and get out of town. Finding Alex wasn’t as easy as Memphis hoped, so he saw Lyric more often and their connection grew.

Memphis is such an incredible guy! He is unbelievably sexy, broody and intimidating, but underneath, he has a heart of gold and will do ANYTHING for those he holds close to his heart, which are very few people. As his story unravelled, my feelings for him grew and I just wanted it all to work out for him.

Lyric certainly is Memphis’s match!! She speaks what she means, doesn’t like to be told what to do and goes after what she wants. I loved how she unsettled Memphis right from the start and when he asked her to do something she would do the opposite! She was certainly my kind of girl. She is creative too, loves her photography and some of the photos she takes, whoa, wish I was there! Memphis… sigh!

Victoria Ashley has blown me away again with her incredible world building and well fleshed out characters. I built a connection to them immediately and they are both passionate about those they consider family. The alternating POV’s were done well and I was glad to get both sides of their stories, it made the whole story that much better. I hope that Alex’s book gets here soon, because I want to see more of that cheeky guy!!

“I’m not cold. I actually prefer the cooler weather over it being hot. You could have kept your jacket on.” 

He turns to me and growls, his eyes staying on mine. “Your nipples are hard, Lyric, so either you’re cold or turned on.” He reaches for the garage door and opens it. “Or both. Either way, you need to cover up . . . for both of our sakes. Trust me.”

“You’re such an ass,” I growl, causing his piercing eyes to meet mine. One look into those eyes and I fucking melt. He owns me with just one look. That’s a huge problem for me. 

“You’re so fucking beautiful. Do you know that?” He grips the back of my hair and hovers his lips above mine when I don’t answer. “I’m fighting so damn hard not to just fuck you where you stand, Lyric. I can’t control myself around you. Do you get that?” 

“Then don’t,” I whisper. 

With a growl, his lips take control of mine possessively, owning me.
