Review ~ The Fury by Johanna Rae

The Fury (Therian Secrets, #2)
Title: The Fury
Author: Johanna Rae
Series: Therian Secrets #2
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: November 2013

Luke Fletcher had finally moved past his alcoholism and marriage breakup when the past caught up with him. Abducted by a clan of Lycans, he woke chained to a cell wall. How long will it take before someone finds him? Will he survive the ordeal and more importantly, retain his sanity?

Jodie Fletcher is under house arrest and not even in her own home. Her boyfriend Danny Archer has become more than protective since Luke disappeared. Working for International Shifter Information and Control, or ISIC, Archer is head of the Urewera Unit in Redcliffe.

Trained and employed to maintain the shifter justice system in a world where humans are oblivious, is no easy task. Now his connection with the local shifters has crossed paths with Luke’s past, Archer is caught between keeping Jodie safe and finding her brother.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is conflict within the Unit. A group of men closer than family are suddenly at odds, distanced from their duty as ISIC agents. Rufus discovers he may have missed the chance to be with the woman he loves. Eddie reveals his animal side to girlfriend Ainsley for the first time; can she accept his second form?

The turmoil surrounding Jodie leaves her nowhere to hide. The clan of were-boars who took Luke, grow bolder by the day. This escalation of tension has to end, but who will emerge victorious?
The Fury is a great sequel in the Therian Secrets series and I enjoyed being back in this world of shifters. It begins straight after the end of The Mercenary, with Jodie going stir crazy as she is being kept in the fortress while the team are out looking for Luke.

We see all the characters from the first book and I liked getting to see all my favourite characters again. I think there was a lot of character growth with most of them in this book. Some examples being that Jodie is coming to terms with her animal, Danny is trying to juggle work with his new relationship and Rufus is unsure of the direction of his life. Luke also has time to ponder his thoughts as he spends a lot of time alone. We also learn a lot more about each individual in the team; the names of their roles and what they do. There is a lot of action, both fighting and in the bedroom. Relationships are also tested and friendships are strained. But when it comes down to it, this secret group works well as a team when it comes to the crunch and their minds are on the game.

A felt this book was a bridge in the full story. I did really enjoy the plot but I found no real confrontations in it. There was a lot of plotting and plans acted upon as well as some life changing decisions made, but I wanted to see some major ass kicking that I think will be coming in the next book (fingers crossed). Don't get me wrong, the guys to kick some ass, but not who I really wanted to see hurt!! I think that Johanna has again done a great job with the Therian Secrets series and I am looking forward to The Butcher and seeing the changes that are going to come into play.

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Great Review Naomi! I haven't read the first book or this book in the series, but you sure made it sound interesting! I love Kick-A** characters! Hopefully, you'll get the more action you crave in the next book! I love that there was a lot of character growth in this story!

  2. Great review! I hadn't heard of this series before - sounds like the type of series that you should wait until all three books are out until you read it, though. That way you don't mind a bridge book so much!

  4. I'm not sure how many books are going to be in the series, but I think it would be better to read them together, that way the detais are fresh
