Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.
This is the first book I have read by Jen McLaughlin (Diane Alberts) and what a pleasurable read it was. Going straight off the blurb I thought it was a disaster waiting to happen and I just knew I’d enjoy it! It was a quirky read that I had trouble putting down. I smiled most of the way through it: at the banter between the characters or the steamy bedroom scenes. If you haven’t picked up one of Jen/Diane’s books, I suggest you do so soon!!

Carrie’s life has been quite sheltered. Her father is an important person and it’s his nature to protect the people that he loves, even if it means Carrie always has someone watching her back. I was expecting her to be a bit of a spoiled brat, but she is far from it. She is kind, sweet and very selfless. The more I learned about her, the more I liked her and her naive personality. Beginning college is a big step for her as she is pretty far away from her family and she is looking forward to the distance.

Finn, I just knew I was going to love him. He is hot, a marine and a surfer with tat’s. He has his reasons for taking on this job, but had no intention of getting too close until it was too late. He tries to come across all carefree and a bit of a player, but he just isn’t that kind of guy at all. Looks are definitely deceiving!

Watching these characters interact was comical!! There were plenty of stolen kisses and there was no denying that the sparks between these characters were going to turn into something more! They try so hard to keep the distance, but in the end it becomes impossible. I enjoyed Jen’s writing style and how she alternated the POV’s, but she left the book open at the end and I want the next book now… Not next month!! I’m looking forward to the next obstacle for this couple, things are going to be interesting!!
