Series: The Famished Trilogy #2
Genre: NA Apocalyptic
With the help of her new companions, the path Kansas follows leads to more knowledge of the ever adapting famished.
The team finds help in unlikely places, meeting more survivors, and discovers the possibility of a new beginning.
When the team experiences a devastating loss, Kansas struggles to keep her humanity from fading and distorting like that of the surviving society around her. It begins with knowing who to trust and who to leave behind. First, she must trust herself – she won't make the same mistakes twice.
As the answers to her questions are revealed, Kansas begins to understand the knowledge comes with a heavy price and great responsibility of controlling the dead.
In a trilogy plot thick with twists and turns, this adult dark fantasy is as emotional as it is horrifyingly gripping.
What an exciting sequel!! You think that reading a zombie book wouldn't be a very emotional journey, but this one totally is… There is plenty of blood and guts, moments that make you cry, some definite swoon moments and heartbreak too. I couldn't believe that I was smiling one moment and on the brink of tears the next. I loved it so much I can't wait for the final book.
The story continues immediately after the end of Taking on the Dead with Reece and Kan looting. She is still recovering from the showdown at the end of the last book with both physical and emotional injuries. She is one tough chicka, and tries to keep her true feelings covered. She wonders what has become of Mac and Rudy is keeping his distance too. There are plans in motion and Kan finds out a lot of details that have her questioning who is loyal to the bone and who is keeping secrets.
Her team are the best and together they are like a well oiled machine. They have each other's backs and will do anything to protect one another. All of the originals are still around but there are also some new people who contribute well too. Glinda and Reece are awesome; they both look out for Kan and are able to see past the walls that she puts up, to the broken girl that she really is. Together, along with Rudy and Mac they are able to bring our hard Kan back. And if you double cross anyone from this team, you better be able to deal with the consequences!!
The chemistry between Kan and Rudy continues to build in this one and details about Mac had me feeling sorry about him. This is one triangle that has me conflicted because I love both guys. They both have Kans safety at heart and will put everything on the line to protect her.
I love Annie's writing. She draws me into this crazy world and I find it very difficult to put the book down. I feel like I personally know the characters and that I’m on this journey with them. Everything that they do makes them stronger and better people. I loved this book and I want the final one ASAP and I hope Annie is onto that badboy soon.....

I love that this is more than just the bloody action of a typical zombie story, but that there's some emotional depth too. I just saw this book somewhere else and added it to my tbr already - was it here? IDK Maybe Kimba. Anyway - loved the review and I'm definitely planning on reading!

The building chemistry sounds great.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!! I haven't really heard much about this series, but sounds good! Though I'm not big on zombie reads though :( Your review was awesome and did make me very curious about the series :)!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Review/
ReplyDeleteExcellent point of view in the story---trying to keep her humanity. It's something that many zombie books overlook. They focus on the adventure aspect--which is terrific--but also acknowledging how people change during zombie takeovers is just as important. DEFINITELY going on my TBR list:)
ReplyDeletecindi @ mommasez...

ReplyDeleteIt certainly is. Loved everything about this book!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Zombie's aren't that big of a focus, you know they are there and are a threat, but the story is more focused on survival in this world. I think you would be surprised as to how much you enjoy this series.
