I make my living as a hustler, and I’m great at it.
I don’t have a single tell and I use that to my advantage to manipulate any situation.
I’ve always known what a person is about to do before they’ve even decided.

That is, until I met Penelope.
I can’t get a read on her, and what’s worse, she doesn’t want anything to do with me.
Which only makes me want her more.

Now I’m in for the hardest hustle of my life.
Somehow I have to convince her she belongs with me.
Good thing I’m always up for a challenge.

What can I say except Hustler was a fun read!! It was just what I needed; two stubborn characters who constantly bicker with one another, that have sexual tension that's off the charts! I loved the humour entwined throughout the book, as well as characters that were very opinionated and pushed each other’s buttons! However, both Penelope and Gavin had issues that they needed to get past before being able to find happiness.

Penelope was a struggling gymnast and a cocktail waitress in the highroller room at Hotel Paragon. Whatever money she earns was to help support her parents back home, as well as her everyday expenses while living in Vegas. She’s a feisty girl and stands up to people who push her too far. But when she meets Gavin Saint, he seems to push her buttons and she is unsure how to handle him.

Gavin was a confident but arrogant man, who knew what he wanted and would do anything to get Penelope. I liked that he was a poker player that could read people easily. He could see that Nell was interested in him but didn’t understand why she wouldn’t bend to his will.

I loved seeing these two together, the constant push and pull was entertaining! They had some serious chemistry, but Nell tried to keep Gavin away as she focused on chasing her dream and supporting her family. Gavin wanted to get Nell out of his system, but the more time he spent with her, the deeper she got under his skin.

I’ve read Quinn’s work previously, but this is the first time I have read anything by Prince. Together they have delivered a sexy, romantic comedy that I devoured quickly. I was hooked from start to finish and each twist had me eager to see what would happen next. I enjoyed meeting the secondary characters too, they often helped guide Nell and Penelope together. I could see that they may pair up as well, and look forward to reading their stories.

Hehe... there's a lot of funny moments between these two, but I giggled at this one. They are attracted to one another but continue to banter!

“You’re telling me you just spent the entire night watching Nick’s penis on CCTV?” I cock a brow high on my forehead. “And you’re sure you’re not gay?”
My plan backfires the instant I feel his lips on mine in a hard, hungry kiss that weakens my knees. Gavin swallows my moan as his tongue duels with mine in an erotic battle. All too soon, he pulls away, grabbing my right hand and sliding it over the fly of his trousers, instinctively, my fingers wrap around his thick, hard length as best they can with the barrier of his clothing in the way. “Still think I’m gay, Miss Prescott?” he asks as he guides my hand up and down, thrusting his hips into my hold.
Stepping away from my grip, he eases me off the wall and turns me towards the high roller suite doors, his hands on my waist as he steps in close one last time, his chest to my back. “I’ll break you down sooner or later,” he whispers in my ear, “and I can’t fucking wait. Now get back to work.”

She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Pulse by Amity Cross ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@amitycross)

After finishing Beat, I had to grab Pulse to see what happened to Ash and Ren! It was just as action packed as the first book with plenty of character and relationship growth.

Ren Miller never dreamed her life would turn out quite like this.

On the cusp of qualifying for the brand new woman's UFC league, she's finally found the thing that makes her tick. She finally has a whole new life before her, but it’s one that doesn't include Ash Fuller.

No one has seen or heard from Beat's Golden Boy in six months, not even Ren. He's disappeared off the face of the earth and he's just another person who's ended up abandoning her when she needed him the most. He broke her heart, but he took the one thing that was hers. Her spirit.

When someone unexpected turns up at Beat with an ultimatum, Ren must make a decision. Go after Ash and her own heart or make her Dad's dream of winning a Championship come true.

Will Ren choose to fight?

Or sacrifice everything to save the man she loves?

Pulse began six months after the end of Beat. Ren has been training like crazy since Ash left and is moving up in the AWUFC. She’s continued to fight in the underground and was doing well there as well. Whilst she was training at her father’s gym, she’s approached by a woman and her life is turned upside down. She not only knows where Ash is but wants Ren to help him live again.

I loved seeing more growth in Ren throughout Pulse. She had worked through a lot of her anger and channelled it into her fighting. She took her time to face Ash again, and even then was hesitant because he already broke her heart once.

Even Ash's anger was more focused in this book. He knew what he lost already and once he had Ren back was determined to keep her forever. But when his problems from the past returned, he needed to choose between keeping her safe forever, or to just keep Ren.

I love the bond Ash and Ren have with one another. They seem to complement one another and are better people together. They have a lot in common and their passion for each other continued soar.

I enjoyed seeing more of the secondary characters and the potential relationships forming throughout Pulse. I loved seeing more of Josie, the twins and another fighter, Hamish (I do love the Irish!). The relationship between Ren and her father was better too. He was there whenever Ren needed him and backed her with every decision she made.

Pulse was the perfect wrap up for Ren and Ash's story. They worked through some difficult issues and came out better in the end. I'm looking forward to more stories from this world, and I noticed that we'll revisit this couple again!! I have thoroughly enjoyed Amity Cross’s writing style, the action, the characters and the way she hooks me into her world’s!

This was a big moment for Ren and Ash... it certainly made me swoon!

“Ren?” he asked and I glanced up at him.
“Hmmm?”
“I love you.”
I froze; my body rigid against his.
“I love you,” he said again. “I have since that first night I found you training at Beat in the middle of the night. I just wish it hadn’t taken all this crap for me to realize it.”

Waiting On Wednesday # 191 – Smut / Gun Shy

Hehehe... Smut, what a title, and written by Karina Halle, should be fun!
Lili St. Germain blows my mind with her dark writing, Gun Shy is a must read for me!
Smut
Title: Smut
Author: Karina Halle
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Expected Publication: May 9th 2016

What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?

All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.

What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also might find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.

When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership together using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot but at least there’s make-up sex now.

But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?

Gun Shy
Title: Gun Shy
Author: Lili St. Germain
Genre: Romantic psychological thriller
Expected Publication: May 10th 2016

A standalone romantic psychological thriller.

There are two thousand people living in Gun Creek, Nevada.
Only one of them knows what really happened that night.

One year ago, my boyfriend almost killed my mother.
One year ago, my stepfather became my legal guardian.
One year ago, my whole world ended.
The boy I loved was the boy who ended my world; Leo drank too much, got behind the wheel and smashed his car into my mother's as she drove home from work. I believe him when he says it was an accident, but there’s only so much you can forgive when you’ve seen your mother laid out on a hospital gurney, all pale skin and damp hair from where they’ve tried to wash the blood away. There's only so much you can forgive as you watch a nurse feed her through a feeding tube, because your mother has turned into a ghost.

There’s only so much you can forgive when your stepfather—the untouchable town Sheriff—moves into your bedroom and forces you to fulfill his every dark desire.

Yesterday the mailman handed me a letter from the prison where Leo’s being held. Leo’s getting out. The boy who stole my mother and thrust me into this hell? He gets to walk free after one lousy year. He gets to move on with his life, and start again, and I’m trapped in this nightmare that never seems to end.

One year ago, my boyfriend almost killed my mother.
One year ago, my stepfather became my legal guardian.
One year ago, my whole world ended.

Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder ~ Audiobook Review & Teaser Tuesday (@JasindaWilder)

I picked up my first Jasinda Wilder and was swept away in the relationships and emotion that was entwined throughout this story. It was a great read and I look forward to reading more!

I wasn't always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.

Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn't teach me how to live. He didn't heal the pain. He didn't make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

Falling Into You is a very emotional read. I spent the first part of the book learning about Kyle and Nell. I saw them when their friendship turned into something more and in a split second Kyle was gone. It was heartbreaking and hard for Nell to get through. Colton tried to help in the aftermath, supporting Nell and helped her to unwind, before he left to head back to New York. Two years later they cross paths again and Colton can still see the sadness in Nell. She hadn’t dealt with her loss properly and he wants to help her. They become close and they both face demons from their pasts together.

Nell was a sweet girl, but I could see that she was struggling in life. She found ways to cope, but not all of them were healthy for her. When Colton came into her life he helped her face her issues instead of burying them.

Colton had regrets from his past too. It wasn’t an easy path for him to get to where he was. His history slowly unravelled and I could see that there was more to him than the rebellious teenager that he was. He grew up after a rough start on his own and found his way.

I loved seeing Nell and Colton together. They both used music as an outlet and for Colton it helped him express his feelings. They both grew together and faced some hard times that shattered my heart, but made them stronger together.

I enjoyed every moment of reading Falling Into You. Some hard issues were faced and the characters learned new ways to deal with it together. Listening to the book was splendid too. Both Gabriel Vaughan and Piper Goodeve gave great voice to both Colton and Nell, and I think they made me more emotionally attached to the story. Jasinda Wilder wove the story perfectly… allowing me to connect to the characters and hoping desperately that they would find happiness together. I will definitely read more in this series, because this book is going to stay with me for a long time!

Nell and Colton struggle with their feelings for one another. Colton is protective of her, but doesn't really understand why, and his curiosity wins out here...

She feels my presence, twists her neck to glare at me.
“Well you’re an asshole.”
“Should’ve closed your door.”
“I told you to leave.” She reaches into a drawer and unfolds a pair of jeans, steps into them.
Watching a girl dress is almost as hot as watching her strip.
“But I didn’t, and you knew it.”

Animal. Monster. Beast. That’s what they call Viktor Melikov, the man who hides in the dark … But even monsters need to be loved. The moment he sees the girl hired to dance for him, everything ceases to exist. It’s a feeling he’s unfamiliar with … and craves more than anything.

Alexis Kidd sells her body. Not because she wants to, but because she needs to. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to support her family and survive.

Now she must dance for a man hiding behind a veil.
But when the urge to take a look grows too strong … Alexis gets more than she bargained for.
More than Viktor was willing to give.

Inspired by a fairytale, VIKTOR is a standalone Romance by New York Times & USA Today Bestselling author Clarissa Wild.

Clarissa Wild knows how to deliver a dark romance, and she’s done it again with Viktor! Alexis and Viktor have both come from troubled and dark pasts; Alexis hides behind her looks to get what she needs, and Viktor uses his scars to hide from the world. Once these two crossed paths, I could see a connection, but didn’t realise how deep that connection went.

Alexis will do anything for her sister – Alisha – and although selling her body was not the ideal job, it was the easiest and quickest way to get the money to buy food and to keep a roof over their head. After an incident with Viktor, Alisha went to Viktor’s for revenge and Alexis offered herself in exchange for her sister.

Viktor was an angry and bitter man, who hid in his house where it was dark and behind his scars. He hadn’t interacted with anyone besides his butler– Winston – in years. He was unsure what to make of Alexis and when he got a second chance with her he made it hard for her to walk away.

Alexis and Viktor struggled in the beginning, I could feel their connection, but they were both hiding secrets from one another. I loved how Alexis could see past his bitterness and scars to the guy who wanted to do right. Viktor had not always been a good person and one act of selflessness changed his whole world. I could see that he still struggled, but I liked seeing him change into a better person the longer that Alexis was around. Together, they supported one another and the sexual chemistry between them was undeniable.

Viktor was such a great story and I enjoyed watching their stories and secrets unravel. I had a feeling of what was going to happen, and even though I was right on one aspect, I didn’t realise how deep that particular thread went. I am so glad that Clarissa Wild was still able to keep me guessing, right until the end. If you haven’t read a book my Wild yet, I suggest you pick this one up! It is the perfect standalone read that will have you keen to read more of her work!

Complimentary copy provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this moment! Viktor realising that Alexis was able to look past his scars!!

“Don’t look at me, please.” I swallow. It’s at times like these when I miss my mask the most. I can’t hide behind it anymore.
“What are you trying to hide?” she murmurs, grabbing my hand. She pulls my arm down, and I let her.
“You shouldn’t have to look at this.”
“At what?” She smiles. “I don’t see anything except you.”
You. What does that even mean? Me. Who am I really?
Who have I been these last couple of years?
Just a monster with a scar … instead of the man she apparently sees in me.
I admire her ability to see beyond the surface.
No, I fucking worship it.
And just like that, I begin to realize I’m starting to fall for her. Hard.
