L.J. Shen has slowly become one of those authors whose books I can't help but pick up. I was excited to see this was a spinoff from another series and I devoured it quickly

From USA Today Bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a new, fun, steamy standalone about a notorious playboy and the nerdy girl who brings him to his knees.

Boston's debauched elite is going up in flames, and it's the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.

Hunter

I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?
It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…

Sailor

I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

This is spin-off from the All Saints High series, and although it had its share of controversy, it wasn’t as dark as the original series. I enjoyed getting to know the notorious playboy Hunter and meeting the girl who would put him on the straight and narrow.

Hunter was a confident and narrow minded guy, but I liked that when push came to shove, he was willing to toe the line to please his family. He was put into a situation that he wasn’t happy with, but to achieve his goals he did everything to make it work.

Sailor was a focused and determined girl and I loved that she didn’t allow Hunter walk all over her. She put Hunter in his place, and they built a good relationship together.

I liked watching the sparks surface between them and the shift in Hunters playboy ways. He focused on his new role and studied hard to achieve a place in his family.

Some plot twists were a little peculiar, but overall I enjoyed how the story played out. Each book that I have read of LJ Shen has been different, I like that she can write darker reads, and some that are a little lighter with some suspense.

Here are some fun teasers that I picked out, some amusing, some meaningful.

“What’s the drawback?” I narrowed my eyes. “If you need babysitting, there must be a reason for that.”
“Impulse control,” he said.
“Meaning?”
“Specifically speaking, I don’t have any. Just think of me, like, as Bambi: cute AF but super stupid and in total need of supervision.”

“The prince is not going to save you, aingeal dian. He is stuck in his castle, fighting his own battle. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and live?” he asked, almost brokenly. I’d never seen him so bare, so raw. “You have to let life touch you. Drown a little with me, baby.”

“You are my butterfly, Sailor. And maybe I’m not Gerald’s flesh and blood, but make no mistakes—when I finally catch you, I intend to capture you, too.”

L.J. ShenL.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets peoples’ birthdays and
never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
