Neighbor Dearest by Penelope Ward ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@PenelopeAuthor)

Penelope Ward has become a must read author to me, and although this can be read as a standalone, I knew I had to read it because I enjoyed Step Brother Dearest so much!

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING STANDALONE NOVEL that does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a friends-to-lovers story with sexy new characters.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I'd dubbed "Angry Artist" also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.

He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn't be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same...because his heartbeat didn't lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn't shatter it for good.

Author's note - Neighbor Dearest is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Neighbor Dearest started off like every other book, boy and girl meet, they bicker and the sexual tension is high. But after secrets were revealed it turned into quite a difficult and emotional read. My heart ached for both Chelsea and Damien, as they pushed through some very hard times.

I loved how Chelsea and Damien first met, it was a case of supersonic hearing and foot in mouth on Chelsea's part! But it was the dogs that bought them together. They both spent a lot of time together and I could see that there was a definite attraction there, but Damien was upfront from the start and tried to keep distance between them.

Chelsea was a sweet girl. She was struggling after her break up with Elec, and Damien was the first person that she actually felt a connection with since then. She wore her feelings quite openly, and tried to move forward when she could. She built a strong friendship with Damien at first, but I could see that she wanted something more.

Damien had secrets but we didn't know how deep they were until they were revealed. It was sad to see he was struggling with his feelings for Chelsea and what he wanted for his future.

These two were scorching hot once they finally took the plunge! I could see their feelings ran deep and they were done being apart. Both of these characters had close relationships with their families, so they always had someone to lean on when times were bad. My chest hurt for Chelsea and Damien in the last section of the book because they faced a lot of hurdles but there were so many sweet things that happened as well. I was miserable, but I was crying happy tears!! It was such a beautiful read and I loved getting to know Damien and Chelsea. Penelope Ward has hooked me once again, and saying another attraction developing I hope we get more from this world!

*** Swoon Thursday was first bought to us by YA Bound. Since they are no longer with us, and with permission from Trisha Wolfe, I have decided that those of us that love to swoon need a central meet up point.  So here it is ladies! I have a link up for everyone at the bottom of the post you can add your swoons to, and I’ll set it up every week! So tell all other swooners out there to come on over, link up so we can visit each other! ***

The attraction between these two was undeniable! And the second swoon... Duck was a typo in their previous conversation, but we know what it means! *wink*

“It’s taking every bit of strength in my body not to accept your offer right now, take you against this wall and fuck you so hard for being a bitch these past two weeks.”

“I wasn’t spying on you. I was trying to keep you safe.”
“How is that your business?”
“Because you’re my fucking best friend. That makes you my business.” His admission made me speechless for a moment. His best friend?
“I am?”
“Well, you were… until the night you asked me to duck, then stopped talking to me.”
