Friction by L.D. Davis ~ Audiobook Review & Quote-tastic (@LDDAVIS478)

Friction sounded like a fun read so I had to give it a try, and it wasn't a bad read. I hadn't read L.D. Davis before, so I thought it was a great introduction to her work... I've had a taste and want more!

Noa was trampled and nearly killed by hundreds of horny female fans at a concert for a band she didn't even like, but Alden, the bad boy lead singer of the band, saved her from the trampling tramps. Alden is used to getting what he wants, especially women, but Noa can't stand the cocky, pelvic thrusting rock star.

Some things should remain in the dark, but by grudgingly spending time with one of the biggest superstars in the world, every dark corner of Noa's life will be illuminated under the spotlight. Will she be able to survive it? Will Alden be able to survive the consequences of Noa's past? Will Noa be able to survive the sexy, brash, and talented Alden Breck?

Friction was a bit of a fun, sexy read, with a touch of danger, as I met Noa, who happened to get trampled at a concert she didn't want to be at. She loathed the main singer for Friction – Alden Breck. After he rescued her, she bantered with him and it's clear that she couldn't stand him. But after a few encounters and a promise from Alden, they spend more time together and build a strong friendship.

In the beginning, I wasn't sure about Alden, but the more I learned about him, the more I liked him. He had a troubled childhood and struggled for a long time. He found happiness with music and became very successful. He has a cocky, confident attitude, but underneath there's still a vulnerable guy who thinks he'll never be loved. So it was sweet to see him fall for Noa.

I enjoyed seeing these two spend time together and watching the chemistry sizzle. It was clear to me that Alden saw Noa differently than other girls, but she tried her hardest to keep him at arms length. It annoyed me that she was sort of stringing Alden along, as he kept opening up to her about everything. But I liked that she was willing to get to know him, and to see her become more confident around him as she had had a hard life too.

There was some seriousness to this story, as I learned that Noa had struggled through an abusive relationship. Her ex pops up occasionally to make life difficult for Noa with his possessive and stalkerish tendencies. Alden wanted to protect her as much as he could but it was hard while Noa held back details.

Friction was mostly told from Noa's perspective, but a couple of different ones popped up toward the end. I enjoyed the narration by Samantha Prescott. She was easy to listen too and kept me indulged in the story. I felt that the storyline dragged a little at times and a few issues arose that I felt weren't needed. But overall, for my first L.D. Davis read, it wasn't a bad story. It was a sizzling and entertaining read, and I look forward to trying L.D. Davis again in the future.

Alden grew up a lot throughout the story and I liked seeing this change in him, and he put his feelings out there.

“I want to be your hero,” he said softly. “I want to take care of whatever demons that are chasing you, Noa. You are… magical. You’ve changed me, forever, and I will never resent you for it. You’ve made me a better man, a man worthy of someone as extraordinary as you.”
His hands cupped my face again. “Baby, let me take care of you. Let me make it all better. Tell me where it hurts and I’ll fix it.” One hand dropped to my chest over my heart. “I’ll fix you.”
