Wild Abandon by Jeannine Colette ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@JeannineColett, @wordsmithpublic)

Wild Abandon is the third novel written by Jeannine Colette, all of which are standalone reads. I have enjoyed each of them and Crystal's story was pretty entertaining! She is a quirky character and is determined to find someone to love!

When you fall in-love it’s forever
But sometimes forever comes with a price.

I never meant to meet Nathaniel Teller. It was by accident, on a Tuesday, that I walked into his bar. He was solemn, intense and hiding a secret behind those stoic green eyes.

I never intended to fall in-love with him. We were supposed to be just friends. But I fell for him hard, deep. There’s no turning back.

I never thought his past would be so dark. And if I thought I had any chance of being in his future, I was wrong. Because his past is his future.

And I need to walk away.

I have quickly become a fan of Jeannine Colette’s and am always eager for her next book. So when I had an early chance to read her new book, you know I jumped on it! Wild Abandon is Crystal’s story and she’s a dating app girl, looking for the perfect guy to fall in love with.

Crystal decided to shift from New York to Los Angeles because her childhood friend Naomi (I know, awesome name;) ) suggested that she needed the change. New fish and all that! So she packed up what she could and moved in with Naomi, her husband Jeremy and their daughter Scarlett. She wanders into Henley’s pub and meets the olive eyed bartender, and she proceeds to spill her thoughts about love to him. She also manages to find a job at a local winery, even though her new employer Ed wasn’t really looking for anyone. It was the beginning of a life changing adventure for Crystal that I loved to the very end!

Nate the bartender, has a past… we all do, but he kept a lot of the major details close to his chest. I could see that he cared for Crystal, but he continued to keep her away from his heart. I liked how he always knew what Crystal wanted, like he could read her better than anyone else.

I liked the developing friendship between Crystal and Ed too. I could see that he was a lonely old man, and Crystal brought life back to his winery and his life. Naomi and her family were great support for her too, always offering advice and they seem to steer her onto the right paths.

I love the way that Jeannine draws me into her worlds. She set this world up so that it felt like I was right there with Crystal in the wine country, learning about the wines and visioning the beautiful views. The attraction between Crystal and Nate grew steadily, and felt real. There was a little bit of drama throughout, but none of it was forced, it was more heartbreaking than anything else. It was a beautifully written journey of self discovery, with moments that made my heart ache, and a touch of humour that made me smile.

Today, I have a moment that broke my heart!!

“I can’t be with someone, knowing I'm their second choice.” I pull on my lip and fight back my tears.
Nate lets his own tears fall free. “And I can’t be with you because I’m afraid you’d be my first.”
