Review ~ Shattered by Tracy Wolff

Shattered (Extreme Risk, #2)Title: Shattered
Author: Tracy Wolff
Series: Extreme Risk #2
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: May 20th 2014

The Extreme Risk series—Tracy Wolff’s edgy, emotional take on the New Adult genre—continues with the story of a lost soul and the fearless beauty who inspires him to take a flying leap back into life.

Ash Lewis has poured every last ounce of his blood, sweat, and tears into reaching the very top of the professional snowboarding world—until the unthinkable happens. After the biggest competition win of his career, Ash’s mother and father are killed in a tragic accident. Unable to handle the idea of going back out on the snow to pursue the dream his parents shared with him, Ash feels that he has no choice but to walk away from snowboarding forever. Then he meets Tansy Hampton.

Wild, fun, and impulsive, Tansy has a different look and a new passion every week. As a cancer survivor who spent the past several years waiting to die, Tansy has a fresh perspective on life—even if she doesn’t have a clue about what she actually wants to do with it. But she’s determined to find out, and that means making the most of her time while she still can.

From the very beginning, their chemistry is intense. But while Ash can’t stop chasing the ghosts of what can never be, Tansy stays firmly focused on the possibilities the world holds for her—and for them. She’s already picked up the pieces of one shattered life. Now she’s determined to help Ash do the same.

Tracy Wolff has quickly become one of my favourite authors. She has written three different series that have become some of my favourite reads… especially this Extreme Risk series. Being in the world of snowboarding is amazing, and Shattered was such a sweet read, after what went down at the end of Shredded.

Ash has been through a lot in the last seven months; he has taken on the role of guardian to care for his brother Logan and stepped back from the snowboarding world. When Tansy comes into the shop he works in, he couldn’t imagine her turning his world upside down with one little wish.

Although they didn’t get off to the greatest start, there was chemistry between the two of them right from the beginning. Neither of them realise the depth of the struggles they have been through in life and it was sweet to see them come together and find comfort in one another. Ash is usually so organised and is definitely out of his comfort zone. Tansy has not had a chance to live her own life before and is struggling to find out who she really is. They are a gorgeous couple and if anyone deserves to find happiness in their lives it is these two.

I love how this story was able to drag my emotions through the wringer. Tracy has taken real life situations and turned them into a spectacular story. The characters have felt devastation, sadness and loss, and then they have had to rebuild their lives. The tenderness that they shared was beautiful and I loved watching them grow closer together. If you want a fresh new adult read, I definitely suggest diving into this series!!

  6. Oh yes, I remember your review of Shredded. Did I one-click that one?!? Well, guess what. If I didn't, that'll be THREE books you're responsible for me buying. ;) I'm so glad that you loved Shattered as much as Shredded. You know I love a book that leaves me emotionally exhausted. And I like that the story is so realistic. Nice review, Naomi. I'll be off to one-click now! ;)
