Review ~ Deeper by Robin York

Deeper (Caroline & West, #1)Title: Deeper
Author: Robin York
Series: Caroline & West #1
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: January 28th 2014

In Robin York’s sizzling debut, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

After reading some great reviews and being nudged from fellow bloggers about this series, (thanks Liz ;) ) I decided to grab a copy from the library. I am so glad I did because it was a fantastic read, as I followed West and Caroline's journey.

Early on, Caroline's world was thrown into turmoil and it seemed to ruin all her plans for the future. It was difficult at first, but she managed to get up each day and found the courage to fight it. She finds some support in West, who defends her honour, but she is unsure of why he did it.

West tries hard to keep Caro out of his life, but it becomes even harder when she shows up at his work. I love how sweet he is; he comes across as a bad boy, but he is a protector and wants to save everyone. Everything that he is doing, is for his family, but Caro is making it harder for him to think straight. He is a very guarded person and doesn’t really open up about his private life.

Caro and West are from totally different worlds; their non-friendship (as they call it) was comfortable for them. I enjoyed how their relationship built slowly and they didn’t rush into anything. I loved the push and pull these two had. They both had reasons not to be together but the attraction they had was off the charts. They would get close but then analyse their thoughts and pull back from each other.

Deeper deals with the serious subject of 'revenge porn' which is as heartbreaking as it sounds. The victims are often left embarrassed and blame themselves. It is a huge issue and I think that Robin York really opens the reader’s eyes to the extent of the problem. The relationship Caro builds with West helps her to build confidence and trust again and to fight against the people and sites. I am very excited to get into Harder after reading the sneak peek in the back!!
