MINI REVIEWS ~ Ros Baxter Novellas

White Christmas
Title: White Christmas (Novella)
Author: Ros Baxter
Genre: Sci-Fi Romance
Published: December 1st 2013

What if your only chance at survival was to seduce the man who broke your heart?

Seventeen years after the Apocalypse, Admiral-class Explorer Tabysha is caught up in a firefight and shot down over Tyver, where ice vampires hunt human warmth. Seeking shelter in an ice cave, she is instructed to stay put and await rescue. But after another ship crash-lands, and the Hunter Gatherers stalk its wounded pilot, Tabi breaks protocol.

When it turns out the survivor is the man who stole her heart then skipped out on her ten years before, it seems to Tabi that no good deed goes unpunished, and things can’t get any worse. But she’s so wrong.

As the Hunters pick up the escalating heat signature of the former lovers, Tabi has to tell Asha that there is only one way to repel the creatures stalking them.

And it involves picking up where they left off ten years before.
White Christmas is a short novella, set in the future where the earth has been blown up and human’s have fled into space in spacecrafts. A lot of traditions have been abolished, but the two main characters happen to crash on a planet that is over run by armoured ice vampires, on Christmas Eve.

The story maybe short, but it is straight to the point and very quickly I was thrown into a sizzling sex scene that would have any girls toes curling. The only complaint I have about the story was that it’s too short!! I was swept away into this futuristic world and I wanted more. It covers everything: suspense, betrayal as well as action. Seven Deadly SinsTitle: Seven Deadly Sins (Novella)

She's on a seven step program straight to hell.

***

Anne's always been a good girl.

But her best friend Nico is about to put a stop to all that nonsense.

When Faithless Fergus ran away with the seventeen year old bridesmaid at his sister's wedding, Anne just wanted to keep busy and move on.

But her best friend Nico had other ideas, devising a recovery program just for her. He called it Seven Steps to Fuck You Fergus.

Problem is, Anne's not sure she has even one little sin in her, let alone seven deadly ones.

Until she meets a boy who makes all kinds of sinning seem like a very good idea indeed.

Will Anne make it through Nico's seven step program, or will Envy be her undoing before she gets anywhere near Lust?

I really enjoyed the concept of this one. Annie's friend Nico has decided that for her to get over her jerk of an ex, is to do each of the deadly sins. What she didn't expect was a little encouragement from the good looking chef who has just moved into the building.

It was a fun read and this little assignment was good for Annie. It bought her out of her shell and made her more confident. There is a lot of potential for this to be a longer story, but I enjoyed it as it was. Nice work Ros *wink*

Home for the HolidaysTitle: Home for the Holidays (Novella)

Four brothers. Three mistakes.

This time, Beth’s determined to stay out of trouble.

Beth Gibson has a bad history with Canning boys, even though no-one ever believed none of it was her fault.
So when the hottest of them all gets snowed in at her place on Christmas Eve, somehow she knows it’s going to end badly. After all, Jimmy Canning knows all her sins. And he still remembers her as reckless Lizzie.
Can Beth show him that she’s not that kind of girl anymore? And does she even want to?
I have to admit it, but I think this is my favourite out of the three Ros Baxter novellas that I have read. There is always something that I love about stories that feature a snowed in Christmas, because we certainly don't have them in Aus!

Beth and Jim have been attracted to one another since school but neither of them acted on their feelings. So years later, when Beth returns home, Jim knocks on her doo and they have to spend time together as Jim is unable to go home. I thought that Home for the Holidays was a sweet read and I would definitely love to read more about Beth and hunky Jim. The have a great connection and a lot of passion and this quick read will definitely warm you up!
