Interview!!

Hi Julie!! Welcome to Nomi’s Paranormal Palace! I have just finished The Eternity Cure and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I have so many questions… but I have done my best to limit them!! Here they are!!

When you started writing The Eternal Rules, did you have a set plan in mind or did it change direction along the way?

I usually have an ending in mind and things that I know have to happen, so I usually write towards those high points and things happen along the way.  ;-)

Allie seems to developing her strength quickly, could she become a master vampire?

She could, actually.  Whether she will or not remains to be seen.

Did you have to do a lot of research when creating the hospitals and research labs for these books?

A ton of research went into writing The Blood of Eden series. The most helpful came from a Discovery channel miniseries called Life After People, which explored what would happen to the world if every human just disappeared. How long would it take for buildings to topple? How long until nature overtook everything? What would happen to the roads, cars, bridges, dams? I had to do a lot of research for this post apocalyptic world to seem real, like it could actually happen.

I am an action girl and The Eternity Cure seems to be packed with it! Did you plan it to be so action packed or is that how the story came out?

I'm also an action girl at heart, so it does come out in my writing. The world is so dangerous, with so many things that can kill you; rabids, bandits, vampires, bleeders, mole men.  Allie and co. have to be accomplished fighters or they're going to be torn apart very quickly.

There are more swoon moments in The Eternity Cure, do you find these scenes easy to write?

Ah, no.  Actually, the romance scenes are the hardest for me to write. Like I said, I'm an action girl. Give me a good bloody sword fight any day.  But thank you for saying the love scenes are swoony. ^__^

How much of yourself or from personal experience have you put into the characters?

I think there is a little of the author in every character they write. For me, Allie and I are very similar; we're both stubborn, we can fight (I take Kung Fu and a Filipino martial art called Kali, where you fight with swords and knives), and Allie has the same temper I did when I was her age. (I've mellowed a bit in my old age, lol.) But there are also pieces of me in Kanin, Zeke, and even Jackal.

I must say, the Aussie covers of the Blood of Eden series are my favourite, what do you think are your fav’s?

I love them all for different reasons. I don't think I have a favourite, honestly.  :)

Ok, so here are some fun questions...

Have you travelled to my awesome country of Australia before? If not, where would you like to go and why?

I haven't, but I would absolutely love to go someday. I want to visit Sydney and the Outback, though I'd probably need a tour guide.  I might get chased by dingos otherwise. ;-)

Do you have any favourite authors that you read today?

Today as in the past 24 hours?  No, but I just finished Deception by C.J Redwine. Fabulous book. Everyone should read it. And Quinn is mine.

If you could travel in a time machine into a book, what book would it be and why?

Harry Potter, hands down. Only if I could be a wizard, though. Think of all the time I would save by Apparating. And I would have a pet dragon; I don't care what anyone says.

Do you have a favourite book boyfriend?

Too many to count, lol.  I will say my newest book boyfriend is Quinn from Deception.  You'll just have to read it to see why. :)

When will we expect the 3rd book of the series? And will it be as emotionally charged as The Eternity Cure?

The third and final book in the series, The Forever Song, will be out sometime next spring.  I can't say much about it, but I will leave you with this.  If you thought The Eternity Cure was emotionally draining, you ain't seen nothin' yet.  ;-)

Thank you so much for your time!! I look forward to The Forever Song…

Thanks so much for having me!

About the Author

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive papillon.

  12. I love it! I wanted to know if Allie had the potential to be a master as well so thank you so much for getting that question out there. Also, so interesting to see that Kagawa is a fighter like Allie. I really enjoy learning more about the authors. Can you imagine traveling into Harry Potter and not being a wizard? The shame! Absolutely fantastic post! Thank you so much for sharing :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
